matt_warfield Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Caldwell and Rodden have both climbed the Nose free. However, neither led every pitch and it took several days so Lynn's ascent is still peerless. Quote
genepires Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 It is only a matter of time till one of them does. Quote
telemarker Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 I see Rodden sending it free ground up in one push BEFORE Caldwell, since from what I've heard of some of the cracks seem to require more finesse and smaller fingers than brute strength. Quote
ScottP Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 I was once accused of sexism for postulating such an idea as the reason Lynn Hill was able to do what no man before her could. Quote
Wallstein Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Tommy sent the whole deal in a day just a few hours ago. I watched him lead the last pitch at 11:00am or so. he started around 1:00 in the morning. He only had one rest between the last send and today. he is a mutant. Quote
Dru Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 And just like Frodo Baggins, only 9 fingers. Quote

That is really cool to get such up-to-date info- thanks! Good for Tommy- not only a mutant but a cool character as well. I guess he figued the Great Roof at 13c and the crux corner at 14a. Quote

In her video, she admits that small hands was a factor on the Great Roof so your critics were out of line. A historic send overall however. Quote
Geek_the_Greek Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Naw, that shit doesn't need mentioning. It's not like anyone ever says "well, I was able to do it because of my +6 ape-index", or "I have 9" wide fists, so it was easier for me". We all have our physical issues, and make do. That's what makes climbing grades so dumb and arbitrary, and it's only the mags (and their zealots) who really care about the difference between 13c/d and 13d. Kudos to Tommy! Quote
