Couloir Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 trees and mountains grow for free, hollywood blockbusters take the entire gdp of some countries to finance No Shit. Thanks Ivan. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 People will gladly pay 10$ to go see a movie at a theatre in downtown seattle, but scoff when they have to pay $10-15 for a nature experience in a pristine environment? Yeah, and the same people who complain about the fee will gladly drop $100 at a baseball game. $15 for Rainier is reasonable. Quote
knotzen Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 People will gladly pay 10$ to go see a movie at a theatre in downtown seattle, but scoff when they have to pay $10-15 for a nature experience in a pristine environment? If you're referring to me, I've been scoffing at movie prices since they hit $6. Not relevant, I know, as your point is that peeps pay money for other "entertainment," so why not for visits to national parks? I don't see "nature" and the environment we live in as entertainment. It's the basis, an essential; it meets a human need (although, if you follow that line of argument, shouldn't all sex be free?). Parks are concentrated natural environments, set aside for respite, etc., in an industrialized society. I don't see it as a commodity to be purchased. But apparently that is the way of the future, and the now. BTW, the high cost of gas is precisely one of the reasons park entry fees should *not* rise. But, whatev. Nobody asked me, eh? Carry on, then. Quote
Alpinfox Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 The guy with a John Muir quote as his signature line is advocating higher fees for national parks. Just thought I'd point out that little ironic gem. Quote
Chad_A Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Sidestep the whole thing and get the National Parks Pass, with the Golden Eagle sticker. Covers the NWFP, and all the National Parks for 65 bucks. They can jack up the Entrance fee at Rainier all they want. Quote
Greta Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Sidestep the whole thing and get the National Parks Pass. That took long enough. All the more reason to by a pass, so now it only takes four trips to cover the cost. Mine will be paid for before chanksgivin. Quote
