snugtop Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Is anyone else annoyed by the flu shot pushers? At my office the administrative staff seems to get their kicks from sending out flu shot emails every fall. They send dozens of these. Then lately I started to notice people I know saying that they *had* to get a flu shot. What is up with this? When did flu shots become the norm?? I certainly did not grow up with them. From everything I've read flu shots have limited efficacy, and that preventative measures like washing hands and not putting your hands in your mouth and eyes are the best defense against the flu (not to mention cheaper) Also, contrary to what people would like to believe, flu shots will *not* protect against the H5N1 avain flu, which is the one everyone's worried will cause a big pandemic. Resist the flu shot craze, I say. Most people should forgo it so babies, the elderly and people with weak immune systems can have it. Quote
bunglehead Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 The last time I got a flu shot I got the flu from it. I'm never getting another flu shot again. Quote
catbirdseat Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 We don't have a shortage this year. Everyone who wants one can get one. So don't let that be a reason to decide whether to have one or not. Quote
ChrisT Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 The last time I got a flu shot I got the flu from it. I'm never getting another flu shot again. I'm with you - the last (and only) time I got the flu shot I ended up with pneumonia! Quote
foraker Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 You have to give the meddlesome HR people something to do when they aren't in 'training sessions'. If you give them any free time at all, they start 'improving' things. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I've taken the flu shot for years and never gotten the flu. Last year I could not get one, caught the flu, and was very sick for 3-4 days. Quote
