Iapetus999 Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 How much should I tip my RMI guide on my summit climb this week? Or another way of saying it: How grateful should I be to my guide for helping to haul my sorry ass up the side of a big-ass mountain? Quote
knotzen Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Just don't tip her/him over too far, is the only advice I can give. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 IF he's willing to autograph your RMI nalgene bottle I'd say about 50 cents (25 if you have to supply the pen). Quote
olyclimber Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Its on the back of the release you sign:  summit climb: $50 just to rim: $35 top of the Cleaver: $20 Ingraham flats: $10 Camp Muir: 50 cents  Be sure you tip them in front of everyone, and say "thanks for the ride" salaciously. Quote
Iapetus999 Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 OK suppose he puts out, we summit, then he signs my bottle. Then how much? Quote
olyclimber Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 if he fills your bottle after he puts out? $75. Quote
Iapetus999 Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 What if he is a she? Is that a bonus or a deduction? Quote
olyclimber Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 You clearly need a guide to understand this stuff. That'll be $375. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 bonus. and if she doesn't speak in the rmi guide accent, double bonus. Quote
Off_White Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 that all depends on your sexual orientation Quote
matt_warfield Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Guides are service professionals with a lot of experience and training that have a direct impact on your safety and the success of your trip. I would recommend tipping a similar % as waiters/waitresses as long as you feel good about the trip and had fun. Quote

So if I tip like at a restaurant that's around....carry the one....$0.75?? Quote

But if your guide is leading a cattle train, wouldn't that be comparable to tipping the guy who stocks the buffet? Quote
olyclimber Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Well, if the food is good, and they tip you off on the choice cuts and freshest fruits, then maybe they are worth a bigger tip. Quote

googlebot Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 My systems tell me that the guides would like to be tipped only with Safety Break equipment. Quote
Off_White Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 and they would prefer that you post about it here... Quote
Squid Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I always tip with free passes to the Enumclaw Petting Zoo- you should see the guides' faces light up!! Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 that's the gift that keeps on giving Quote
olyclimber Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Squid, let me know if you need a guide this weekend! Quote
