The main biological goal of a male is to spread his genes prolifically. So, I would think that MFF would be far more common than MMF. ???? And when social pressures stop forcing a woman to be identified as a creature there to procreate, women often chose to have no children at all. And when they get economic control over thier own lives, they often chose to not marry at all. Perhaps we are more than the sum of our parts? The goal of the female is not just to get impregnated, but rather to raise offspring to the point where it can reproduce. She does this by providing for the young as best she can. It may require two males, in fact, if conditions are difficult, and this actually is the case in parts of Nepal. The male also wants to have lots of offspring old enough to reproduce and he does have incentive to provide for the young, but promiscuity is another way of accomplishing the same thing with less effort. Certainly, men did not link their two minute liaisons with random women to the child that came out of her 9 months later. For that matter, women couldn't have understood that link anymore than they could have understood why they bleed monthly. It's only when the temps get colder and food scarcer that they produce male aphids. There are a lot of insects who's population is almost all female.
