archenemy Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hey, PP and co., what do you guys think about bringing back slavery and child labor? What about returning to no workers rights and the inability for a minority to get a fair trial? Your political brothers sure have left a positive legacy on this nation. The first Civil Rights act was pushed and passed by the Republican party. Quote
cj001f Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 The first Civil Rights act was pushed and passed by the Republican party. That would be the 1860's version? Because they sure weren't fans of the 1960's one. Quote

Assuming you mean the civil rights act of 1866, you really believe Lincoln's Republican party is the same as bush's political party? Quote
olyclimber Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 And what about the Republican Guard? Why were Republicans defending Saddam in Iraq? Quote

Ah, no; I don't "believe" its the same party (hell, those dudes are all dead now anyway). Just think it's fun to occasionally point out tidbits from history for entertainment purposes. Quote

The first Civil Rights act was pushed and passed by the Republican party. Yes, I am fully aware of this. The "Republican" and "Democratic" parties have kept their names the same, but little else, in the past two hundred years. Remember the Democrats were once (not long ago) the party of the south and the Republicans the party of the Northeast. Sorry to say but the Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt would be Democrats today and hold about as much in common with today's republicans as a platapus does with an orange. Quote

archenemy Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 "it's fun to occasionally point out tidbits from history" Good post--thanks! Big Business has learned to bypass these time-consuming shenanigans by just running the government themselves. Quote
artschool Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Hyper-nationalism, huge military, disdain for human rights, mass media control, national security paranoia, corporate power unleashed at the expense of organized labor, disdain for science and the arts, election fraud....hmmm has this thread drifted into a discussion of Germany and Italy in the 30's? No. I wonder if PP wears brown shirts? Flame on. Quote
