Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 ... having our cars being broken into. My truck was broken into yesterday at Heather Meadows. No valuables were in sight. They busted the back hatch off my canopee. I will most likely have to buy a new canopee. Between me and my wife, we've had our cars broken into four times in the last year. Two of these were at trailheads. I'm getting sick of these weasly cowards. Quote
slothrop Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 That sucks, man. My buddy's car was stolen this past week in Seattle, too. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 A local officer told me that don't have the resources to really dig into stuff like this. The thieves know this. Is it just going to get worse and worse then? There must be a better way to deal with this. In Bellingham it's probably a certain group of people that do this regularly. It seems that money would be saved if they just put in some more hours and caught them, then to deal with all the calls and follow-ups. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 Additionally, the police know who broke into our car and cleared our accounts a month ago, but they are doing NOTHING about it becaue they don't have the time. Anyone have any advice about that? Quote

Anyone have any advice about that? yes after dealing with the exact same thing, i can give you this advice. you're screwed. the king county sheriff that handled my case gave me the following bit of wisdom. there are so many cases of identity theft/car theft in the area that they could pretty much keep their entire staff busy full time on it. b-rock Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Anyone have any advice about that? Vigilante justice. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 Anyone have any advice about that? Vigilante justice. I've been considering that option. I want to form a posse first. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 I thought of doing a stakeout a while ago, but I spent the nice days climbing, not watching parking lots from a bush. However, I have more motives to sit in a bush now. I would really like to catch someone red-handed then follow them for the rest of the day to annoy the crap out of them. Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Do you think that if you handed the cops a couple guys and a bag full of credit cards, they would see fit to make an arrest? Probably not. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 Do you think that if you handed the cops a couple guys and a bag full of credit cards, they would see fit to make an arrest? Probably not. I agree, cops may not do anything, but I could annoy the heck out of the theives. Find out where they live, park outside their house. Send pictures and video to the newspaper, stuff like that. Quote
b-rock Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Do you think that if you handed the cops a couple guys and a bag full of credit cards, they would see fit to make an arrest? Probably not. True. But you could kick them in the head. That would be fun. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 I wrote an email to our mayor and told him to get his ass in gear. Quote

Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 Welcome to a meth epidemic. They bought meth supplies at the drug stores with our credit card. Then went and got some mochas and filled up all their friends gas tanks to top it off. Quote
cj001f Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 and filled up all their friends gas tanks to top it off. Socal requires you to enter your zip code when you purchase gas at the pump. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 You've got to be pretty dumb to use a stolen card at a gas station! Doesn't that just time stamp you on a security camera, next to a car with a license plate? Quote
kyladycaver Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 you gotta leave some gear in your car...but who leaves any kinds o' plastic?? in a car?? somebody's gonna have to mug me on the climb to get my cards! Quote

Cobra_Commander Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I assume you disputed charges, so I would then assume the cc company would do an investigation. Maybe not. Anyway, seems like an easy way to get a lead. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 We got a lead, we know who did it, the cops know who did it. They said they dont have time to do any more with it. It may not even go to court. Quote
slothrop Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 "Leads? Yeah sure, I'll just check with the boys down at the crime lab. They've got four more detectives working on the case. They got us working in shifts." Maybe you should just post the thieves' address and any identifying information. Quote
