Here in PDX you can get a Chinese Spyderco knock-off w/ serrated blade for $2-3 at Next Adventure. Tie a cord on it, throw it on a BD accessory wiregate (the metal one).

Good advice - get a reliable but less expensive serrated edge knife to hang on the harness. Serrated edge knives cut through cordage much quicker (even when dull). Though, I keep my my very dear Benchmade rescue in my pocket so as not to lose it...

I've never carried a knife.

I've never needed a knife out climbing.

Sharp rocks or pitons with hammer work ok.

I've used them hiking for cutting clotheslines and food hangers and cleaning fish, but never climbing.

I've been thinking lately about carrying one, because since I just said, "I've never needed a knife out climbing", I probably will next time I go out.

Next Adventure in PDX carries a nice selection of (Chinese made, unfortunately) knives for super cheap. They are lockblades, range from tiny to pig sticker size, have a serrated edge, are super sharp if not really durable, and are ridiculously cheap. I think I got mine for about $3-$4. If all you do is cut up old rap stations, it's a great deal. I added a bit of 3mm cord to the small keeper hole on it, and clip the cord to a keychain biner so it can clip to my harness. There's no need to drop $40+ on an emergency belay knife!
