undermind Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Hello, I have heard people reference "the book" when discussing routes on climbs like The Brothers, etc. What's the best climbing book for the Olympics? Quote
olyclimber Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Climber's Guide to the Olympic Mountains Quote
Blakej Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I'm not sure the date but the new one is suppose to be out this summer I believe so either wait or maybe try to get the old one discount. Quote
bremerton_john Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 The manuscript for the next edition is being submitted for publishing next month. I'm not certain, but I would guess it will hit the shelves towards the end of the year. Â John Quote
bremerton_john Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Good question. Actually, we don't know yet. We've narrowed it down to a few finalists, but honestly there hasn't been a unanimous favorite yet. So if you've got a stunning color shot of the Olympics you think might be a good candidate, post em quick, like in the next week. The catch, though, is it has to be a color slide, not a negative. A digital shot might work also apparently. I don't know why they won't accept a regular negative, probably something to do with the publishing/printing process. I'm no expert on that. The photos inside the book can be any medium, but we've got those pretty much chosen already. Quote
undermind Posted April 16, 2005 Author Posted April 16, 2005 Awesome replies. Didn't quite expect this good of information! Quote
Fairweather Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 From slides: Â Â Â I have a few others, but they're not taken vetically. Quote
Blakej Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 don't know if I'd put it on the cover but that goat picture kicks ass. However he looks a little too happy anything we should know about? Quote
olyclimber Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Well, the rear section of the goat is hidden, so we'll never know, will we. Quote
bremerton_john Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Nice pics Fairweather. I know some of the others in the group favor seeing a distinctive peak or peaks, in the sense that the image clearly shows one of the more well-known ones (Olympus, Constance, Cruiser, etc.) I'm guessing your shot was taken on Olympus. Â The goat shot is nice though. Quote
Fairweather Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 The goat pic has Mount Stone's main peak in the background. And you're right, that's the snow apron below West Peak Olympus. Â Here's a picture I took of Constance N Face from the summit of Warrior..... Â Quote
Blakej Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 man those are some nice crisp pictures you've got fairweather. What kind of camera/film do you use. Or perhaps your like me and just get lucky some times. Quote
wayne Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Quit posting that picture! Too bad thats such bad rock and the ice is so rotten! Quote
Blakej Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 wayne you too huh? You should go take a look at the route 7 and 8 on washington. Avys kept me from having a decent look the other day but there may be a ribbon thats climbable I believe up what looks like route 8. Then again with the warm temps it may be a waste of time. Quote
MTNEER Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 The Mountaineers Publishing moves in mysterious ways. A SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess) of when the 4th edition of the Climbers Guide to the Olympic Mountains would out is before the climbing season of '06. Several proofs have to be reviewed before the presses run. Quote
