A_Little_Off_Route Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Since I got back into rock climbing my addiction has reawakened. I'm clearly not going to make it through the winter without climbing. I've been buying as much gear as I can but this only provides momentary relief. I need rock. Where can one climb around here in the winter? Vantage? Or is that too cold. Smith Rock? (long drive) Levanworth is snowed in I would think... Help! A_Little_Off_Route PS Cheers Quote
tivoli_mike Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 To Anacortes young man!!! Mt. Erie awaits! Quote
vwfanatic96 Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 possibly Index and Smith but no matter what its gonna be pretty cold. Quote
Billygoat Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Erie was great today in the sun, but beware when it is wet Quote
Blake Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 what'd you do billygoat? I too was able to get in a day on the rock today. (my fourth in the past 2 weeks ) Quote
Alpinfox Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Ya'll were at Erie yesterday? Olyclimber and I had a great time stumbling around in the mud + sticker bushes while lost, but finally found Powerline Wall and climbed a few routes. We only saw three other people all day - Dallas Kloke and two bumbly kids. Where were you? Erie/Vantage/Tieton/Smith/Index/X32/X38 can all provide winter rock climbing opportunities. Just need a sunny day or two. Erie, being south-facing and at sea level is probably one of the warmer and faster-drying options. Stone Gardens and Vertical World are usually warm and dry as well. olyclimber Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 OK...which one of you was driving the car with all the GW stickers on it? Make sure you bring the 10 essentials if climbing at Erie. Quote
Stavrogin Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Erie looks pretty good today from the window of my cubicle. hopefully its not raining here thursday or friday, it kills me when its so beautiful while i'm working, and when i'm off it rains. Quote
Billygoat Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Damn! We were at the Headwall (I think that is what it is called). I believe we did the Nose with the 5.9 variation on the finish. The loose block at the crux is wedged in cause we tried to trundle it, so it is safe to pull on, just feels dangerous. Great day! Didn't see anyone except the tourons in the parking lot. Next time... Alpinfox Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Erie Sux. What? You don't like moss, slime, lichen, and low-angled chossy rock? Boy, you're hard to please. Quote
EWolfe Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Don't forget gaper tourons cavorting about above you. Makes Vantage look good. Quote
