Iceaxe_ws Posted October 7, 2002 Posted October 7, 2002 I'm leading a Multi-sport Adventure trip to New Zealand, March 7th-22nd 2003. We have had 3 participants (all experienced mountaineers) who have asked us to arrange an attempt on Mt. Cook (Australasia’s highest peak) and possibly Mt. Aspiring (time permitting) as an option extra. We are in the planning stages of putting together this additional trip. We are considering inviting another 2 climbers on the Mt. Cook attempt, with the goal of having 2, three person rope teams. The way we see it, there could be two options: 1. Two additional climbers could join us in Auckland NZ, March 20th – the goal is to send the climbers off to the South Island March 21st and those folks would return to the States March 30th. The 2 additional climbers could stay on in NZ for as long as they liked. Land cost of Cook attempt we estimate to be below US$700 for 8 days. International airfare extra. 2. Two additional climbers sign up for the entire Tour leaving Seattle March 7th returning March 30th – total cost US$3,000 (or a little less) for the 23 day trip, including air fare. Here’s some information about the full Tour: Roving Kiwi Adventures March 7-22nd, 2003 Multi-sport Adventure Tour to New Zealand If you are looking to travel to New Zealand and want to truly experience the country and people, and find out what discovery and adventure really is, then this is just the thing for you. We'll personally see to it that every last detail of your multi sport adventure trip is taken care of. We're not a travel agency; we're people just like you who like to have fun and seek adventure. We know the country very well and know of many “off the beaten path” adventures. As an added bonus one of our guides is a native New Zealander. Small groups. Most equipment provided. Main focus of tour will be on trekking, white water rafting, caving and mountain biking. See website for detailed information regarding activities, trip itinerary and all inclusive cost (US$2,300) from Seattle. www.rovingkiwi.com Quote
salbrecher Posted October 7, 2002 Posted October 7, 2002 I think i'll go climbing with that money instead of spending it on a "climbing tour" Quote

If your guiding you might want to make up your mind whether Mt. Cook is in New Zealand or Australia. [ 10-07-2002, 07:29 AM: Message edited by: AlpineK ] Quote
Terminal_Gravity Posted October 7, 2002 Posted October 7, 2002 Has Continal drift moved the Cartenz Pyrimid out of Australasia recently? Quote
Dru Posted October 7, 2002 Posted October 7, 2002 I climbed Mt Cook in 1.5 days round trip from White Horse Hill campground and all it cost me was $150 for the flight in. $700 and 8 days is the biggest ripoff since the $500 carbon fibre trekking pole Quote
mattp Posted October 7, 2002 Posted October 7, 2002 Mount Cook is an awesome mountain, standing ten thousand feet above the Tasman Glacier next to it. If you don't take the plane flight, the easiest route on Cook is like stacking two moderately big North Cascade climbs on top of each other - picture climbing the Fischer Chimneys and then, when you get to the summit pyramid you are transported to the start of the Price Glacier. If these guys are good guides, I bet that would be a reasonable price and I don't think it would be a mistake to allow a week because the weather down there sux. Quote
Lambone Posted October 7, 2002 Posted October 7, 2002 If you are going to solicit your buisness here, then you must first buy us all a beer at pub club... Quote
mattp Posted October 7, 2002 Posted October 7, 2002 If you want to claim your prize, you'd have to show up again some time. Quote
