Blake Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 (edited) There's a webpage called "ebates" that will automatically mail you a rebate check for purchases made from a wide variety of online retailers, including many climbing/outdoors places. (REI, Altrec...) The discounts aren't huge, but it is simple to use and there doesn't seem to be a catch. Edited April 3, 2005 by jon Quote
Jeebus Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Stay away from ebates.com the catch is the annoying pop-ups and spyware on your pc that will take MANY hours to get rid of if you can get rid of it at all. Quote
undermind Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 So this is where I picked up that Ebates bug! I was wondering .. I would suggest not clicking the above link. I did, and now Ebates is always popping up and taking me off my current page. Add/Remove Programs does not get rid of it. Quote
whistlepunk Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Tip: Try Spyware Blaster. Rather than removing spyware from your computer, it prevents spyware from being downloaded in the first place. I've used it for quite some time now, and have no issues. Best of all, it's free. Â http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spywareblaster.html Quote
Blake Posted April 1, 2005 Author Posted April 1, 2005 I tried to edit the above post to get rid fo the link, as it sounds like it's jus trouble, but there is a max time period for editing... sorry guys. Quote
Couloir Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Get Ad-Aware and/or Spybot Search and Destroy. Both are recommended by Microsoft to get rid of Spyware. Â Clean out your cookies and files everytime you surf. Run this software at least weekly. Make sure your virus software is current and has automatic updating. Make sure you have windows update on automatic for critical updates. And, if you're paranoid about anything else that might be saved on your computer, get Window Washer by Webroot. Quote

After running your spyware software and cleaning up all the adware, don't run IE - it is prone to these viruses. Use Mozilla Firefox as your browser instead. Quote
chirp Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 which is "better" or more versatile and safe...mozilla or Firefox? Quote
marylou Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Mozilla and FF both come from the same company. I find Mozilla (browser install only) to be a little friendlier and easy to use. If you are tight on computer resources, FF is smaller--though IIRC Mozilla's not that big either. Quote
