barkernews
So I found some ghetto-cheap tix to Switzerland this Christmas... so I'm packin' up the K-2s and jumping on a plane. Anyone have advice on THE place to tear it up? I'm staying in Interlochen.
tobytortorelli
I'm curious where you got the cheap tickets, as I am preparing to travel to CH in Feb.??? Hope there is snow for you during Christmas.
Gaper_Jeffy
Yes please spill your ticket source
barkernews
Dude! Just check Travelocity! $580 Portland to Zurich right now. I booked over Christmas week. Not sure about February... And the Franc is trading much better against the Dollar than the Euro is, so it's the best deal going.
jj221
Do you ice climb? I will be in Beatenberg (10 km from Interlochen) from 12-17 to 12-27. I'm trying to find a second that doesn't involve hiring a guide. Â As for the skiing try http://usa.myswitzerland.com.
JoeMack
I'm jealous. We stayed in Interlaken during the summer a year ago. I took a day trip to hike to see the Eiger/Monch/Jungfrau. There were ski lifts all over the place. To get to the hills, you need to take a train to Lauterbrunnen and then Wengen. Grindewald was nearby. I can recommend a hotel in Interlaken (http://www.lotschberg.ch/), but if I were going there during the winter, I'd stay further up in the mountains. Have fun! RobBob
You can probably get an inclusive pass to access the trains up from Interlaken every day, and all the bahnen & lifts around the whole Grindelwald/Kleine Scheidegg/Wengen/Murren region. But I agree, if you are not fixed into staying in Interlaken each night, Grindelwald would be the town to stay in. Â Nothing's going to be cheap, and the $ sux right now. But you'll have a blast. barkernews
jj221: I do ice climb... but I'll be chillin' with my wife... so I can't. We're gonna just hang and ski. Â Anybody else buy any of those cheap a** tix?
dtw
I would highly recommend Murren for peace, quiet, and unbelievable views… car free village, only way in is by train/funicular.  Take a look at: http://www.wengen-muerren.ch/flashnofsindex-muerren-e.html We stayed at Hotel Eiger. Kind of $$, but everything in Swzland is!  If you’re staying in Interlaken, you could ski all the nearby areas on different days: Grindelwald/First area, Murren/Gimmelwald area all are short train rides away.  Good area map: http://www.alpineskimaps.com/swit/jungfrau/mapwin.htm  Luzern is another nice town if you need to stay a night off the mountain, and it’s quick trip by train to the Zurich airport  Other Helpful sites:  http://switzerland.isyours.com/e/index.html http://www.ski-europe.com/resorts http://uk.myswitzerland.com/en/intermaps/v04/indexdirect.cfm?lang=en&Reg=&PG=0,Destinations,2,LiveCams  I'm jealous. Jake
Ok, time to bring up this thread again. Â I'm considering heading over there in Feb to ski for a week. I'm thinking Grindelwald and Zermatt, but am interested in any other places to check out too. Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Grindelwald to Zermatt on a train? Any good places to stay? Also, any thoughts on cheap deals?
cj001f
Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Grindelwald to Zermatt on a train? http://www.sbb.ch/en/ Their times are dead on. Until you hit the Italian border
RocNoggin
if you arent committed to Switzerland then Austria might be a better option. cheaper lift tickets and more snow. so much of Switzerland gets so little snow, Zermatt only averages 250" a year! St Anton in Austria averages twice that, so if you want powder...
