Has anyone ever done a roadtrip snugtop.gif to the Rockies in mid November? Just wondering what conditions might be like for some of the stuff that mere mortals can climb. I'm thinking the Junkyards, Cascade, Haffner Creek, etc. for some easy early season mileage.

Gadd's conditions website is great, but the fact that Terminator is "..in easy WI6 condition" doesn't help me much. frown.gif

Yes. It varies from year to year; I'm pretty sure that with conditions and weather as they are, it's going to be fantastic! I'll tell you for sure next week!!!

The "mortal ice" tends to come in a bit later but it sounds like King Creek is phat right now and there is a fair bit of easier stuff there. Haffner could be bone dry or thick depending. Last year it fattened up only because of forest fire no one went in there until Dec. Two years ago, pre fire it got beat so much by mixed climbers in early season that ice never formed.

Cascade can come and go fast as its so low. Urs Hole is better in early season. Mostly your best bets in Nov will be high in the K-Country or up the Icefields Parkway.

Gravsports says Arterial Spurt is in, thats a good 200m WI3 near Canmore.

mortal stuff up high on the Icefields Parkway comes in earlyish: Bow Falls area, Murchison, there is a report there of Shades of Beauty being in. There is a days worth of easy playing at the far left of the Stanley Headwall too.

Yes. By Thanksgiving there will be a ton of stuff in that will be way fatter than the ice here in the PNW ever gets. Don't ponder the trip, just do it...

I've spent the past 5 thanksgivings there. always a good time except last year when it snowed so much that they closed the icefields parkway and Hwy 1 in three different places and avy condions were insane.

Murchison is probably in as with other high sheltered climbs, possible stanley headwall
