OlegV Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 I need an advice on mittens/gloves for cold weather mountainering. Do they have to be GorTex? Any specific brands with reasonable price? Quote
bDubyaH Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 basically look for the mitts in the $100 range. OR, TNF, and Marmot all make great cold weather mitts. make sure the palm is durable, amazing how much wear is caused by carrying a mt axe for a month. Quote
mneagle Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 I used the OR Ice Mitts on 2 trips to Bolivia. They are really beefy with padding over the fingers and knuckles and a double layer of Gor-Tex. Although it was butt-cold climbing Sajama in 40 mph wilds in the middle of the night I got by with only the single inner-liners. The double liners are probably only needed for polar exploration or for people with poor circulation. Bottom-line: bulky but toasty. Quote
graupel Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 The Outdoor Research handwear line has nearly entirely changed from what you know from 2 or more years ago. I don't have any of them myself yet, but they look quite good and improved in many different ways. Their model for this category (maximum warmth) is this http://orgear.com/home/style/71870 Quote
louroy Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 check out the Black Diamond Guide gloves, they've proven to be very warm and very durable for my adventures last season! Quote
