basically look for the mitts in the $100 range. OR, TNF, and Marmot all make great cold weather mitts. make sure the palm is durable, amazing how much wear is caused by carrying a mt axe for a month.

I used the OR Ice Mitts on 2 trips to Bolivia. They are really beefy with padding over the fingers and knuckles and a double layer of Gor-Tex. Although it was butt-cold climbing Sajama in 40 mph wilds in the middle of the night I got by with only the single inner-liners. The double liners are probably only needed for polar exploration or for people with poor circulation. Bottom-line: bulky but toasty.
