kluther2000
What is the minimum diameter of rope one could safely use for simple glacier travel?
erik
7mm is a decent size...much smaller i think your prussiks will be the same diameter, creating a super super tight bite with the rope iff you have to do a crevasse extraction!!! i think 7mm is the smalled dynamic rope too???? i could be wrong! Cpt.Caveman
I have used some 7 to 8 mm ropes without any problems.
Steigerman
I use an 8mm rope with 5mm prusiks. If you go bigger on the prussiks you don't get a very good bite on the rope.

chelle
I climb with a 50m 9mm rope, and 6mm prussiks. I think you're supposed to have a minimum of 3mm difference in the diameter between the rope and the prussik cords.
Dru
i would like to see someone try to use a 6mm "rope" and 9mm prussiks
Cpt.Caveman
I use a 30 meter line when there are only 2 people. It's 6mm and my 9mm prusiks are fine
ryland_moore
Fine for jacking off Just kidding Cavey. Will a 9mm prusik actually bight on a 6mm cord, or is it me not understanding your sarcasm this morning? Never tried it, and would think it would never work. The smallest I've climbed on was 8mm. Gave me enough mental security and very light.
