ashw_justin Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 So many rocks up there though. I'd have to be little beeyotch and sideslip until I was clear of 'em. Quote
iain Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 that schrund looks entirely jumpable/passable/etc??? Quote
layton Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 I'm not good enough to post in a skiing related thread. Â I'm more offended by ashw_justin thinking i was a PDX local. I am held here against my will. I am a Bellingham boy and will make my prophetic return in two weeks or less. Behold the return of the king (of alpine failures). Quote
ashw_justin Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 yeah yeah I know I'm just whining... like I said, the rocks... Quote
ashw_justin Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 Cool maybe you can show me and Seth some stuff. P-town ain't bad, the beer is good. I was there for 3.5 years but then, I was a kayaker and only occasionally climbed. It's a big whitewater town. Quote
philfort Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Hmm, that face looks like a fun ski. The 'shrund looks easy to get around, just the rocks on top that look sketchball! Â Is it easy to pop back over the col between the N & S sisters? Quote

Is it easy to pop back over the col between the N & S sisters?  Hey do have days off during the week? I'm getting pretty motivated to crank this little thing out. I bet you could even downclimb to clear the rocks, or -gasp- bring some 8-mil for a short rap.  I've been to that col from the west, and it's not bad. Not sure about getting back up from the east, but if there was rock climbing involved I could just ropegun it so long as it was 5.8 or easier and the landing was snow... Quote
philfort Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 ...if the weather's looking good, I could probably be convinced to take a week day off to go check it out. Quote
dberdinka Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Â I bet Skykilo would do it anyway. Dang. Now he's gonna go snatch the line! Â Evidently that face was a bit of a "test piece" ski descent back in the 80's. I believe it saw numerous descents. Â Darin Quote
ashw_justin Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 I wonder if that was back when you could drive most of the way up there? Quote
philfort Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 ... and back when the glaciers were thicker and the upper section was smooth snow instead of rocks Quote
AJScott Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 I went up the West Ridge of the S. Twin this last winter on Feb. 11th and 12th. Heres some photos...I believe this one shows the NW face of Skookum that you are talking about. Â Â we climbed all of the west ridge, but left our packs at the large N. facing col and snowboarded down it on the way back. Â Â rode all the way down to the road, then after a short hike, rode all the way back to the car. Great trip! Â Quote
AJScott Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 im gapin'!!! I cant post a damn FOTO...The pictures are in the photo gallery, where i double posted them all-GAPIN GAPER Quote
cracked Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 You need the url of the photo, not the page. Right click on the pic, choose properties. Use url that ends in jpg. Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 has anybody been up here recently. I am wondering if an axe is useful anymore for the approach? Quote
Dru Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 if you are gonna glissade down the n face an axe is always useful. Quote
ashw_justin Posted July 14, 2004 Author Posted July 14, 2004 I'd wonder how much snow is still left on the NF. I've heard that if the NF is melted out it's better just to downclimb the West Ridge. Quote
AllYouCanEat Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 This makes me wet. Why can't June last longer? Work sux's. Oh, and justin, if you air the rocks I'll get a photo. As for the schrund, you'll need something to slow you down. Everyone knows snowboarders can't turn. I bet layton is a closet snowboarder. Abomibable desk jockey out... Quote
ashw_justin Posted July 14, 2004 Author Posted July 14, 2004 No no, snowboarders can't edge. I can turn just fine, it's the slowing down part that gets tricky. Snowboarding is all fun and games until you're supposed to take it easy and all be careful and shit. Just wait until winter pow time man, when your edgeing advantage is irrelevant! Quote
iain Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 snowboarding is all fun and games until someone wants to go away from the lifts Quote
ashw_justin Posted July 14, 2004 Author Posted July 14, 2004 snowboarding is all fun and games until someone wants to go away from the lifts  You're right, good thing there's lifts to the summits of Baker, Adams, Hood, Eldorado, North Twin, St. Helens, and let's not forget Glacier Peak. Quote
ashw_justin Posted July 14, 2004 Author Posted July 14, 2004 Slowshoes. Pshhh! Â ps. I believe the appropriate phrase would be: "Check me out, I'm rippin'!" Quote
