hey can i add to/usurp this montana thread?

we're planning a 4 week road trip that will take us to WY. We're planning on heading north to MT on the drive home. Any recommendations on places to stop and climb for a couple of days in MT in Sept.?

Red Lodge, Bozeman, Missoula, and Butte areas (among others) have cragging and some sport climbing and all should have good conditions in September. I am most familiar with the Bozeman area: Bozeman Pass, Gallatin Canyon, and Hyalite Canyon will more than fill a couple of days and there are good shops in town for info. wave.gif

if coming back from the Tetons, there's a nice drive between two ranges in Idaho that takes you to Hamilton, MT, in the SW corner of the state. Just outside Hami is Blodgett Canyon (among others), with some nice spires, buttresses and the like.

from there it's a quick jaunt up H93 to Missoula and a I90 straight shot home. have fun.

I was in Missoula this weekend, there is snow about 2k above the city but we drove north a ways and there was no sign of snow. It is still cold there though and it did snow in Missoula two weeks ago.
