rat Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 long shot. anybody have recent info on conditions in cowan cirque and/or beehive basin? post or email snocreek@crcwnet.com. thanks. Quote
matt_warfield Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 Don't know specifically about either area, but I do know it was a low snow year in SW Montana. There will still be snow at elevation as of now, but it will melt off sooner than usual. Quote
minx Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 hey can i add to/usurp this montana thread? Â we're planning a 4 week road trip that will take us to WY. We're planning on heading north to MT on the drive home. Any recommendations on places to stop and climb for a couple of days in MT in Sept.? Quote
matt_warfield Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 Red Lodge, Bozeman, Missoula, and Butte areas (among others) have cragging and some sport climbing and all should have good conditions in September. I am most familiar with the Bozeman area: Bozeman Pass, Gallatin Canyon, and Hyalite Canyon will more than fill a couple of days and there are good shops in town for info. Quote
lunger Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 if coming back from the Tetons, there's a nice drive between two ranges in Idaho that takes you to Hamilton, MT, in the SW corner of the state. Just outside Hami is Blodgett Canyon (among others), with some nice spires, buttresses and the like. Â from there it's a quick jaunt up H93 to Missoula and a I90 straight shot home. have fun. Quote
matt_warfield Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 And if you're driving north from Jackson, WY through Yellowstone Park instead of through Idaho, you hook in to I-90 just east of Bozeman so either way there is a nice outdoorsy destination to pause at in Montana and do some climbing. Quote
Bronco Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 I was along the I-90 corridor last weekend and found pretty damp conditions, they've had quite a bit of moisture the last 3 weeks. Â Here is a link to the telemetry sites if you're interested in that info. Â http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Missoula/nwsomso.sfcrgl.html Quote
nolanr Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 Second the Red Lodge area, the Beartooths are fantastic and are right on the southern edge of Montana. Quote
Lambone Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 rat, both Cowan and Beehive will have some snow, but there will be dry routes on both peaks. Trailheads should be pretty well acessible. Â PM for more info, or for a contact for a local who knows both areas very well. Quote
jon Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 I was in Missoula this weekend, there is snow about 2k above the city but we drove north a ways and there was no sign of snow. It is still cold there though and it did snow in Missoula two weeks ago. Quote
