Looking for beta on peaks in the Kahiltna Glacier area -- we're intersted in E & W Kahiltna, Pk 12,000 (on the S Buttress Route), Francis and anything else anyone can recommend. Thanks!

Ah, sadly no, I dont have direct info for ya. An aquaintance climbed Francis - he said it went fine but glad he had crampons. The weather crashed before we could attempt it.

Last year we hiked around on the Kahiltna and managed Kahiltna Dome and Capps - worthy objectives both!

Next year I'll go back for Francis, W Kahiltna Peak and Crosson - should be a good ol time.

Here are some photos from our trip last year:

Frances is commonly climbed as a day trip from base camp. There are some av slopes, large crevasse field, and some hanging seracs above this approach

Crosson SE Ridge is a nice 6000 ft route sometimes done as a long day trip, or as an overnight. Pretty mellow terrain, but last 1000 ft pretty interesting. Great views

those Kahiltna summits all have similar routes up them: mostly snow, lots of avalanche slopes, but fairly short.

If you want more detailed beta, PM me.

Done Francis (crevasses along ridges and a little bit on low angle ice, good times!), kahiltna dome (great wind scoured broad ridge climb) and point ferene. All great little climbs. There are some good climbs up the se fork of kahiltna as well. PM if you have any questions

Just FYI in case someone reads this -- climbed Crossan, Kahiltna Dome and Francis. If you want beta or pix email me at wfinley at couloirgraphics.com and I'll post.
