dberdinka Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 (edited) I heard a rumor that new logging roads on the south side of Slesse last summer reduced the approach to "30 minutes". Hard to believe, though no one knows how to cut logging roads to timberline like the Canucks do! Any truth to this? *** POST 420 ..... SWEET!! *** Edited March 5, 2004 by dberdinka Quote
Dru Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 the recent logging in slesse creek has all been to the north of the current parking area. i think this is just a rumor? Quote
Stemalot Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 (edited) dru, you are in the Wack...go check it out for all of us! Edited March 5, 2004 by Stemalot Quote

cire Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 I was on Slesse last year and know roads come close to the base of the mtn. when you top out the road is real close. Quote
layton Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 when you top out the road is real close. oh yeah, and its lots of fun to get to that road too. i like to trailrun that descent sometimes, maybe a MTN bike afterwards. Quote

jhamaker Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 I was up there last Fall. Yes, the walk approach from parking to the climber's trail is 30 minutes (no gain from parking). No water. You could gain 1000feet or so on logging rds directly above the parking area if you have 4 wheel drive and good clearance, or if you don't care much about your car. Then you would only have a few thousand ft of bushwacking to camp! Quote
layton Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 to camp? dude that would be a very very shitty camp. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 Yeah, I heard straight from someone who climbed it last year. Someone said that new roads made the approach to the Southwest Route a lot shorter, to about half an hour or so. From this discussion, it's sounds like he was full of it, or he was thinking baout something else, or I misunderstood him. Next time I see him I'll ask him about it. Quote
layton Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 i call total bullshit on 1.5 hours from any road, even a new one, to the SW route. (unless Dan - was your source-he's really fast i hear, maybe the fastest?) Quote
Dru Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 you could build a road all the way to treeline, and it's still take more than half an hour to get to the standard route on slesse. not to mention that the FDP for the slesse cr. drainage shows no roads or cutblocks anywhere near that high. translation: someone is talking smack.
