When I pass a leader on an Alpine Climb, I usually tie him off to his last peice of gear with a clove hitch, so that he is forced to stop, and I can get by. Then, when I get to the belay, I kick a few rocks or some ice down, when I can, to teach him and his team mates about the importance of speed in the mountains.

My question is: Is there a better knot for tying off a climber that you're passing? Or will a clove hitch work the best? I personally like the clove hitch because it is easy to tie with one hand.
