I'm looking for suggestions on a lightweight expedition pack (with a volume of approximately 5500 cu. in.). I'm looking at the Andinista and the Osprey Aether 90. Any views on these packs or other suggestions? I've also heard that Arc'teryx will soon be redesigning its packs.

Thanks for your input.

What I know...

The Khamsin series is going to be a thing of the past next year. I don't know if that includes the NoZone or not.

They are going to blended with the RT's I think.

frame or rucksack, two different packs, but you know that already.

TNF Vapor 80's on sale at Sierra Trading Post. 5,000 cubic inches, four pounds and change with lightweight carbon fiber stays. I have a predecessor of this frame system and packbag and have to say TNF did this pack line right...

check it out if you want a large capacity, light internal frame pack.

Do a search in the Gear forum for Andinista. Several comments about that pack getting pretty uncomfortable at higher loads. I'd agree. I love mine up to about 45 pounds, but above that I switch to something with a real suspension system. I wouldn't consider it an expedition pack unless you have shoulders of steel.

I have an Osprey (unfortunately not a lightweight model) and I love it. I've heard good things about the lightweight packs from GoLite.

Ehmmic has not heard anything good about Golite packs from me! IMHO they suck suck suck for alpinist. I don't think they make any expedition sized packs anyway.
