I was figuring a wooden one since it would be easier to make. But if you've used a fabric one,and liked it, holler. Please share any info.

For a buttbag, or bosun's chair, my preference is for not tying knots that restrict tilting back and forth.

ok, so your talking about a wooden board with holes drilled in it, webbing knots on underside of board. makes sense that it would restrict movement. instead, make slots for webbing that so one continuous peice can wrap around the whole thing?? am I making sense??

If it's for wall climbing where you'll be in hanging belays for hours at a time, definately go with a wooden one.

They are easy to make. Get some thicker plywood, cut it to the size you want, larger the better as long as you can carry it.

Drill four holes in the corners. Thread some old rope or webbing through them and tie it up. Get creative with the straps and figure out what you like, there are a couple of different ways. Malke them long enogh that you have room to hang below the clip in point.

Also, very important...get a cheap old foam pad and cut a piece out to cover the top, duck tape it on and you've got some padding for thy arss.

adjustable straps is a nice feature (yes, you could adjust one made with a continuous piece of webbing, but go ahead and try adjusting it after your weight is on it)

We used one of the new A5 ones last month...pretty good design but the lumbar strap thing is almost useless. If I were making one I'd go check one of these out and shamelessly rip off the design.

Definately make a wooden one (as if that wasn't already said enough). Fabric "buttbags" will hurt the same way your harness does without a spreader pole. It's personal preference, but I like a fabric strap across the back side of the chair for my back. If you make the four support lines connect high (like at your neck or above) you can adjust how far back you lean and stuff like that.

Just get a board, cdx I think and drill four holes in it an make straps and a clip in point. Pad the think with a lot of foam. I used one that just had carpet for padding and my ass hurt really bad!

If you are on a big climb just use a portaledge or sit on the haul bag if you don't have a seat. Or go way hard core and just hang!
