Paco Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Anybody out there use one of these or the full Dromedary bladder? I've used one for a while and it leaks like a beyotch. The place where it leaks is between the small screw-on cap with the flip thingy and the larger screw-on cap. I've replaced the cap once already and it didn't help much. Anybody have any experience using other water bladders? Quote
erik Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 i dont like them either........leak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i swapped out with a reg nalgene top and the leaking was reduced. they are hard to fill and even harder to clean and dry out. i use platypus bottles now. way lite. Quote
dryad Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I use a Platypus hoser, with duct tape over high-stress areas (don't know if that actually helps or if it's just a psychological boost). The only time it ever leaked was when I didn't screw the hose on tight enough. Oops. Never had any punctures. Quote
IceIceBaby Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I like them they are pretty bomber Wrap the small threads with the white silicon tape (plumbers tape) about 2 to 3 times and no more leaks…get the straw extension and this is the bomb with variable water capability I find it very easy to clean and very reliable I also own the Camelback and Platypus and I like the MSR and the Camelback the best Quote

gslater Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I've used my Dromlite bladder for a couple of seasons now, and it has never leaked. I also use a regular Nalgene lid instead of the special one with the multiple pouring options. Just takes a little practice to get good with the pouring... Quote

I've never had any problems with leakage, and the hose works extremely well. And the large opening is GREAT for filling it in the field. Quote

As far as leakage just make sure you've got everything screwed on tight(duh) and that the bag is in a position in your pack so that it doesn't shift alot. The tape can't hurt tho. over all big Quote

You can get a ten liter dromedary for camp or desert and it still weighs about the same as a one liter nalgene. leakage, go buy another cap or screw the things on good. sometimes the plastic threads get compromised by cross threading and then they always leak a little. you can wear a two-liter droms like a vest on the front of your shoulder strap if you're on the approach, it evens out the weight distribution as well. Attach them to your yank strap at the top of your rucksack, you can even drink out of the standard bags, sans hydration tube, by aim and shoot method. Sorry to have to be so graphic. Quote
marylou Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 The Nalgene is the best out there, with a caveat: there is a (handy) lock valve at the bottom of the hydration bag that makes it so you can't "backfill" with a pump. If that is not a problem for you, then gogogo. Quote
