fleblebleb Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 I sprained my ankle a little bit, fell off a slackline, need to take it easy for a few days... so I'm going hiking with some friends that don't do that very much, and don't have hiking boots. Any suggestions for snow-free trails in the N. Cascades this weekend? I'm thinking about the Hidden Lake Peak hike, maybe Green Mountain, the Maple Pass Loop up near Black Peak, Spray Park perhaps, or just good old Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm. Boston Basin maybe? Please respond and tell me where the snow starts... Or, if you immediately think of a cool hike that is also the beginning of an approach to some cool climbing, with a good snow-free trail, then that would be cool to know. What's the approach to Snowking like? Never been there. Good snow-free trail with views? Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 I dont know what the approach to snowking is like now but if you can make it to the Lakes you'll have nice views. It may be very possible to get there with little or no snow.. Check out Trappers Peak. Quote
ncascademtns Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 If you heading toward Black Peak, take the trail up to Rainey Lake up at Rainey Pass. Hell, if you can find a wheel chair, you can get someone to push your ass up to the lake. Just under a mile and paved, you can't beat that! Quote
JoshK Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 stebbi, I was up near black peak a couple of weekends ago. the trail up to heather pass (the pass leading to lewis and wing lakes) was almost entirely snow free. It's a very pleasent hike of probably less than 3 miles. from there to black peak itself is snow, but even from the pass, you get great views of black peak. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 Last July I took some friends up Hidden Lake Peak, and there was a fair amount of snow. Check out the latest reports on wta.org for "snow on trail" warnings. Quote
leejams Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 Or try something a bit further east as it melts out quicker over there. The hike/walk from the old town of Trinity up towards buck creek pass is nice. Views straight up at Buck and berge Mt's are cool. Quote
