catbirdseat Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 A friend and I are looking to do Triple Couloirs on Dragontail this weekend, either Sat-Sun, or Sun-Mon. We'd like to take one or two more along. PM me if you are interested. Quote
David_Parker Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Cat, if you can solo WI2, just solo it! There are only 2 pitches of ice, it's NOT too thin and there is a ladder of steps up it unless it snows again. dberdinka and I did it yesterday (Wed). Quote
catbirdseat Posted May 23, 2003 Author Posted May 23, 2003 I've got enough people at this point. Wish us luck. We'll be camping on Sunday and climbing on Monday. Quote
catbirdseat Posted May 23, 2003 Author Posted May 23, 2003 We're counting on predicted cooler weather on Sunday-Monday. So just how cold would one want it to be at the lake at say 5 am? 25 degrees max? Quote
iain Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 25 would be okay at 5am but 25.5 at 5:05am is totally unacceptable. Maybe asking for a tad too much beta, eh? Quote
JoshK Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 If it was me personally, I would aim to hit the "ice" pitches between couliors 1 and 2 by sunrise, but that's just me. I'd rather trade some sleep for colder conditions. If the ice isn't there, just be prepared to find some way to bypass that section. Quote
erik Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 YEAH CBS GET UP AND DOWN IT.......CLIMB IT AT NIGHT...STRAIGHTFORWARD. BE ON TOP FOR SUNRISE!! MOVE RIGHT IF THE ICE SUCKS, BUT NOT TOO FAR RIGHT. BRING SOME TRI CAMS Quote
Dru Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 [(temperature/time)^^inexperience]+ (beer drunk*no sleep)*leads 5.7 + (courage>ability)= EPIC Quote
fleblebleb Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 Well, since it may not freeze overnight up there at least you won't be cold. Quote

Darin and I postholed in mushy snow circumnavigating the lake. It remained warm and the snow was soft and the ice plastic. But there is plenty of ice (thickness wise, but narrow in spots) and it should be fine even if it's above freezing. BTW, it was these excellent snow conditions that made me take note it was skiable if you dare! Quote
