Dustin_B Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Any one been on the west ridge lately? How much snow is on route? Never been up there, is this a good route this time of year or is it better to wait later in the season? Thanks. Quote
Szyjakowski Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 IF your a newbie I'd wait till End of july or start of August... otherwise there is snow up there... LOTS.... click on any recent trip report for the area with pics and observe... or just go for it and live it up! Quote
JoshK Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 It's still covered in snow. If you want much more of a challange go do it now, otherwise wait until it melts more. Quote
dalius Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Go, but just realize you'll be using your ice axes almost all the time! Quote
chucK Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 The West Ridge Couloir is way cool (check it out in Beckey). You crampon up a deep couloir all the way to the West Ridge notch, then you get to do the best rock climbing part of the West Ridge to top it off. Probably better fun this time of year than the West Ridge proper. Quote
JoshK Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 chuck, I assume this is the coulior that comes up from the opposite side of the notch as the stuart glacier coulior? I was looking down this thing from the notch; it looked pretty cool. Quote
fleblebleb Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Uh, you're not going to do *any* rock climbing up there right now except with crampons and tools, and depending on skill you might like to have aiders. I've heard the west ridge couloir is full of shit Quote
joe_retard Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 If you need to ask that question, then maybe try to set your sights on something else. I recommend Petunia Peak. Jose Quote
