According to our leader (who occasionally struggles with the language):

Apparently, a professor has been arrested in the US in possession of compasses, protractor, and straight edge. It is claimed he is a member of the Al Gebra movement, bearing weapons of math instruction.

OMFG, I thought this was a joke when I was reading it! I can't believe there are people who are really that stupid. Actually, I can, but it's still shocking to hear what they have to say.

Thinking about this for a second, I take the stupidity comment back. The person who wrote this sounds like a paranoid schizophrenic, which is sad. I have a loved one who suffers from the illness. This article isn't the product of stupidity, it's more likely the product of mental illness.

I find the Internet a cornucopia of astonishing facts. For instance, little did I know that marijuana was lethal, or that you needed setup a dictatorship in order to fund your marijuana habit. Maybe Saddam was addicted to Mary Jane. Gee golly, he must have been, right? I mean, Saddam was a dictator and evil, and you need a dictatorship in order to fund your marijuana habit. And marijuana being evil too MUST mean that Saddam was an evil pot smoking dictator. Not to mention that he had a Cheech mustache, I mean hello!

langor rises reaching

to turn off the alarm

and there's never so much seething

that it can't be disarmed

but just stop it up, patch it on

shove to shelf it, to leave it off and

TURN OVER

Lounging 'gainst your weapons

until your muscles find lock

in the ease of that position

wait until the tremor passes

as some cherie amour suggests

maybe it was time to smash things up but just

stop it up, patch it on

shove to shelf it, to leave it off and

TURNOVER

I'm only

I'm only sleeping rockband.gif

Yeah, I'd have to say that Repeater is my choice for the pinnacle of Fugazi. I went to the most amazing show when that disc was current.

(FYI: that British Conservative Catholic site is of course clever satire along the lines of The Onion)

Dr. Flash Amazing has been most impressed with 'The Argument' thus far. They got so many diff' styles and layers of instruments (two drummers and cellos and all that) and noise and what all ... seems like every listen reveals something new. It's a damn masterpiece.

Although for a more aggro Fugazi, DFA finds himself reaching for 'In on the Kill Taker' time and again. Fuck, 'Smallpox Champion' alone is worth the price of admission (that'd be $8 postpaid); the rest of the album could've been techno a-capella Milli Vanilli covers and it still would've been a stellar album.

Yeah, it's really poppy, you're right. Almost indistinguishable from the latest Mariah Carey single. Fugazi totally sold out with this one, didn't they? Should have known when they did that in-studio gig on Z100 and started selling Fugazi t-shirts and wallets at Hot Topic that something was amiss. Time to sell all their albums and find a band to listen to that doesn't suck.

Weapons of Math's Instruction

At New York's Kennedy airport today, an individual later discovered to be a public school teacher was arrested trying to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a setsquare, a slide rule and a calculator. At a morning press conference,Attorney General John Ashcroft said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He is being charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of maths instruction.

"Al-Gebra is a fearsome cult,", Ashcroft said. "They desire average solutions by means of extremes and sometimes go off on tangents in a search for absolute value. They use secret code names like "x" and "y" and refer to themselves as "unknowns", but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of the medieval, with coordinates in every country. "As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, there are 3 sides to every triangle," Ashcroft declared.

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of maths instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes. I am gratified that our government has given us a sine that it is intent on protracting us from these math-dogs who are willing to disintegrate us with calculus disregard. Murky statisticians love to inflict plane on every sphere of influence." The President added: "Under the circumferences, we must differentiate their root, make our point, and draw the line."

President Bush warned, "These weapons of maths instruction have the potential to decimal everything in their math on a scalene never before see, unless we become exponents of a Higher Power and begin to factor-in random facts of vertex." Attorney General Ashcroft said, "As our Great Leader would say, read my ellipse. Here is one principle he is uncertainty of: though they continue to multiply, their days are numbered, as the hypotenuse tightens around their necks."
