Training to get bodily results

Recommended Posts

Old Miloshk's post about how to train was pretty rich. However, I am (at least half way seriously) curious as to how aplinists here train for long days in the mountains when they can't get into the mountains (I'm living in San Diego until May). I've been sprinting hills with a weighted backpack, climbing in the gym with a backpack, trying to get long days in at the crag on the weekends, and of course consuming the usual copious quantities of beer to work on the dehydration tolerance. Any other crazy ass workouts to suggest?

I used to run around Boston, which is completely flat, and then run up and down the fire escape in one of the big hotels (the ground floor fire escape doors are exit only but you can usually get in on the 2nd or 3rd). This is hard work and very boring - ideal training for alpine climbing.
