specialed Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 Old Miloshk's post about how to train was pretty rich. However, I am (at least half way seriously) curious as to how aplinists here train for long days in the mountains when they can't get into the mountains (I'm living in San Diego until May). I've been sprinting hills with a weighted backpack, climbing in the gym with a backpack, trying to get long days in at the crag on the weekends, and of course consuming the usual copious quantities of beer to work on the dehydration tolerance. Any other crazy ass workouts to suggest? Quote
Bronco Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 carry a heavy rock or log back and forth through a swamp and up and down steep muddy hills. good preparation for post holing. Quote
freeclimb9 Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 Long bike rides are fun and good training. But you can get "bodily results" eating tacos off the carts in TJ. Quote

Dru Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 drop acid and free solo to prepare for the hallucinations in the death zone without O2's. Quote
Ade Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 I used to run around Boston, which is completely flat, and then run up and down the fire escape in one of the big hotels (the ground floor fire escape doors are exit only but you can usually get in on the 2nd or 3rd). This is hard work and very boring - ideal training for alpine climbing. Quote
cracked Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 Right now my current training regime consists of sitting on my ass, studying. I don't even want to know how much I weigh. Quote
