gear reviews

i'm personally a fan of the ad-hoc type of reviews and questions that occur here in the forums, but I'm curious as to see if anyone would find value in a more structured gear review system.

 

i have written a script for another website that allows "structured/scored" gear reviews and was wondering if anyone would find that of use here.

 

I see possibly combinging the threaded discussion, along with such a system a possibility but wanted to hear what the masses have to say.

i foresee gear reps will abuse the new system to lie about their products. in this setup its easy to call bullshit and they dont bother.

I've thought would be handy to have the reviews at least a bit more structured, like separate forums (fora?) packs, pro, sleeping bags, clothing, tents, etc, but that would add a bunch of extra forums, and more stuff to navigate through.

I have to 2nd Dru's opinion. I think your efforts to make a site more organized is great but then we would probably lose the "honest" opinion of users. Also, with the current format, its easy to spend the effort to read through reviews and throw out the ones you like and don't like because you know who wrote them.

Maybe this would cut down on the number of repetitive posts like:

 

I'm looking for a new lightweight 3000 ci alpine pack. My choices are

 

1) The pack that's on sale.

2) The trendy pack.

3) The new pack that's not available yet.

 

I need to know which one is the best.
