My car was slim jimmed on Fri. 21st at Si parking lot. They found the hidden wallet, took out two of my 4 credit cards, left the cash, replaced the wallet, and locked up behind themselves. First charge - a shell station in North Bend on same day. This is just a reminder for everyone to be careful. Seems like same Exit 38 bandits profile.

Sorry to hear about the break in - had my car broken into not long ago, albeit by some of the junky-ass-mofos on Capitol Hill rather than at a trailhead. madgo_ron.gifmadgo_ron.gifmadgo_ron.gif

I hung onto a cancelled credit card that I reported stolen after losing it momentarily on a trip to Utah, and now leave it in a dummy wallet for the next POS that breaks into my car. Not sure if anything will happen to them other than a "charge denied" message popping up the first place that they try to use it, but imagining them getting arressted or at least having their mug caught on tape at the Kwikee Mart while they're stocking up on unfiltered Camels, Schmidt Ice, Ho-Ho's and a fresh cache of porn en route to their next meth binge makes me feel better.

Just as long as you don't goof and grab the wrong card and use it by mistake. There is a reason why the first place they go with a stolen card is the gas station. It's automated. They can test if it works with little risk.

Shouldn't there be some video evidence or something of these fucks using your card at the gas station? Authorities are probably to busy harrassing people for not having a forest service pay to play pass to catch real crooks though. Sorry to hear it bro, sucks ass.

Yeah Specialed, I'm sure there is video of these a-holes. I just have had enough experince with the law to know that the chances of getting this followed up on is not worth my time. The credit card compaines foot the bill for stolen credit cards, which in the long run, means we do. The police are so overloaded with this kind of crap to a point that they just filter out these calls unless you stay on top of them as a full time job.

don't blame catbirdseat...it's true. however, the place they go After the gas station tends to be a store to put hundreds of dollars on Your credit card, then to another gas station to test it again. the upshot of this system is that after the 2nd or 3rd gas stop within a couple of hours, credit card companies tend to put a hold on the card because they know about the pattern too. thumbs_up.gif

having recently experienced a vehicle break-in, i can say from experience that the authorities are going to take a report and leave it at that. Its up to the bank to push for a fraud investigation. I asked my bank about the catching the person using my card and basically they told me it's really not worth their time unless it get to be a large sum. So yeah they can do it...is it worth the effort to the police or your bank. no.

I always take my wallet with me. Can't understand why people leave it in thier car. One rainy week day we saw a POS car quickly leaving the Si parking lot. As we were getting our shit together thease other dudes came back to discover thier car had been broken into. Aparently we had scared off the scum before they could steel anything. Would be nice to cruse up on a bicycle or an electric car and catch them.
