Thinker
from here: 5-Ton Boulder Crushes Colorado Man Posted: 9:46 a.m. EST February 18, 2003 NAVAJO LAKE STATE PARK, N.M -- A man who was struck by a falling boulder along the north shore of Navajo Lake has died from his injuries. Nathan Bailey, 20, of Durango, Colo., was hit by the rock Saturday. He died later that evening after he was airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. Bailey and two friends were rolling rocks down a hill when Bailey was hit by a boulder weighing an estimated 5 tons. It took rescuers about two hours to reach Bailey. The incident is being treated as an accident, said Larry Federici, a regional manager for the state Parks and Recreation Department. At least they didn't report him as being a 'climber.' iain
the fact he didn't die instantly by a 5 ton boulder is disturbing. must have been a tough one for the first responders to that scene.

Dr_Flash_Amazing
Who gives a fuggy if it ain't that big (and really, if something the size of a small car is hurtling down a hill at you, are you really going to just shrug and say "hmph. Ain't that big.")? It's 10 kips of rolling death, screamin' comin'atcha like the Wu-Tang Killer Bees!
iain
I think he was referring to its bouldering potential, flask.
Dr_Flash_Amazing
Hmm ... could be, could be. PS - "Flask" -- that's a good one!

klenke
Yes, I was referring only to the bouldering potential--which would not be V12 if it were small car size unless it was standing up on end. I'm well aware that a rock the size of a football can kill you.
Dr_Flash_Amazing
Hey, this was resolved 24 minutes ago. Please, do try to keep up!
Dru
if it was made of welded tuff, 5 tons of it could well be the size of 'the Peanut" or "cave Boulder". those rocks float if you throw em in the river!
glen
5 tons is about 2 cubic meters of solid rock. About the size of your desk. Ouch!

glen
to float, it would have to be pumice, not welded tuff... though pumice shards may be found in welded tuff.
