To add to what Kurt said, the typical Nimitz class supercarrier carrier can feed about 5,000 people 3 meals a day. It can produce tens of 1,000s of gallons of fresh water per day, and a half-dozen or more helicopters which it can sortie for rescue and evac operations. I think just one carrier might be the biggest SAR force ever assembled, so mebbe that's a good thing for the Indonesians...

Played the Ugly American Tourist today at the Dubai Mall. At least it got me out of my first shamal (sandstorm)... The first few pics are taken at the aquarium inside the mall. This puppy holds over 10 million liters! That's like 2.65 million gallons, or way more than twice the size of your average elevated city water storage tower... SHARK!!!1 This guy is about 12 feet long... and he's got lots and lots of friends in there with him... ...and they've all got nasty, big, pointy teeth! "Now where did that Crocodile Hunter guy swim off to...??" This guy is as big as a dining room table, not including the tail. World's Worst Case of the Crabs About 5 to 6 feet across, if you stretch out the legs Penguins! And yes, that really is climbable ice behind those guys... Dubai Mall Ice Rink. Yep, real ice in the rink, too. Despite the fact that the coffee in the hotel room is instant Nescafe', if one searches long enough and hard enough, then one can find a decent demitasse of espresso in the Middle East... Dubai Mall Waterfall. Over four stories high and the scene of the silver swan dive suicide... The Burj Khalifa, the World's Tallest Building, at 2,723 feet. Even from ~1/4 mile away, still only the top half fits in the field of view. That sucker is mighty damn tall, lemme tell ya...

The Grand Adventure continues... Made the hop from Dallas to DC yesterday, then got on the Big Bird for the Persian Gulf. Just flew into Dubai last night (what was your "this morning") and what a place! Haven't felt a bit of jetlag, and I just can't sleep. It's 0200 hrs here right now, still partyin' down, and not showing any signs of lightening up. I think it's about mid-afternoon yesterday for you folks in the PNW. Carry on!

Oh, and I just got back to the hotel in Fort Worth moments ago from a super-quick visit to DC to see the 'rents for the Easter weekend. I finagled a "weekend pass" of sorts and jumped a plane from Dallas, TX to Dulles Int'l on Saturday afternoon, where Dear Ol' Dad picked me up for the ride home. It was a swell trip. I think it really cheered up Mom to see her prodigal son before he shipped out.
