Looks like I skated yet again last night, then...

I've been on plenty of rescues where the RP "wasn't acting quite right" and we never asked them if they were on drugs. I mean, c'mon, they're the subject of a rescue. Of course they don't feel "quite right." Yeah, but you're not a cop But I want to play one on TV. Just like those Seattle guys...

Sounds a little uncertain. Was the "civilian" a cat in a box or something? They should ask this guy. He would know...

I think it's a bummer that the dude who called in the rescue got busted. WTF is up with that?

Thank you all for the wonderful birthday greetings. Taking the day off today, I started this morning with a couple of Bloody Marys. For breakfast, a few cups of coffee with a shot or two of Baileys in each one brought me to lunchtime, which saw a couple Dark n' Stormys to wash down my sammich. This afternoon was spent in front of the laptop doing some general surfing and then making airline reservations for RamaHannuKwanzMas with the 'rents back East, being fortified with a 6-pack of Moose Drools. Getting ready now to head out to dinner with some friends, wherein I'll drop a bottle of fine cabernet, and will likely finish up dessert with a tawny Port or some Ameretto di Soronna. I expect that when I get dumped back home later tonight, I'll have a nightcap or two. I'm thinking either a couple Vodka Tonics or an Old Fashioned or two... You can't believe how long it took to spellcheck that post...

Wellllllllllllll into it, Marcin. Took today off, on account it's ma berfday. VA Tech College of Civil Engineering motto, ca 1986, coined by yours truly: "You can't drink all day unless you start first thing in the morning!"

Caving in the Old Dominion was what led me to climbering over 25 years ago. Caving in the karst of the OD and neighboring WV was damn cold, wet, and muddy, to the point of requiring wetsuits for some caves. By some of yer pics, it looked to be dry and warm in Dynamite Cave. Is that so?

Thanks! This past May I went back east and met my Uncle Frank for the very first time. He doesn't like to talk much about the killing part of his service in the 101. But if you get him lubed up a bit, he can tell some pretty funny tales about the fun they had during and after the war. The things they did with Hitler's stuff at the Eagle's Nest was fucking hilarious. After they found and "destroyed" Goering's wine cellar, they decided to test the bulletproof glass in the windows of Hitler's staff car with their Thompson 45 submachine guns. According to Frank, "...it wasn't entirely bulletproof, but it took a lot of ammo to prove it." Then they took his transport plane for a joyride, having figured out how to take off. It wasn't until they got it airborne that they realized no one on board knew how to land it. The boys fucked it up pretty good, but they all managed to live. The pic below was almost the last one of Uncle Frank alive... Frank had a bunch more, but my brother and I were busting a gut so hard that we told him he had to stop talking.

Very proud work, TC! FYI, one President's Day many years ago, I strapped on some AT skis at the small ledge on climber's left right where the Pearly Gates starts to neck down very narrow. I got in about three turns before catching an edge, made one more turn on just one ski, then tumbled the remaining 500-odd feet or so towards Crater Rock. After I cleaned up the yard sale, I shot straight for the Hogback, catching air as I schussed over the assembled horde there, landing in the Devil's Kitchen. Without missing a beat, I booked for the top of the Palmer, never looking back. The rest of my crew (not on skis) said it looked pretty cool. After the wipe-out, that is...

Oh, and as an update on my pirate kitteh Phydeaux (mentioned above in the Cap'n Morgan post), the little fucker rallied like a sum'bitch when he heard he was gonna be put down. Little bastard snapped right out of it, and now, after almost $900 and three trips to the vet, sub-q fluids and some meds, he's luv'n life. He's gained about a pound in the past 3 weeks, and he's sleeping in my lap as I type this right now. Lucky little bastard... He's got to live quite a while now to amortize out this latest emergency...
