  1. There is a somewhat pathetic mountain over in Eastern Washington called "Whiskey Dick"... it hangs a little to the left. By Rainier there is the all time classic "Knob Gobblers Peak" .... sounds like the two should hook up.
  2. Rockrat, I'm up for a beer and chatting about climbing.... with other ladies. Tha'd be great! Hey Erik. "Woman/Rodent"? I guess it's fair to put Men/Roaches in the same catergory then. Learn some manners, go spray in another topic. The first women show up and you immediately try to get rid of them? What's up with that... i think the single men of this board wouldn't appreciate that. Tsk-Tsk.
  3. Right-on, beer and climbing. Does life get any better? Dynamite, i'm not familiar with that pub. But it doesn't take long, i'm sure. Besides poor Jennie are most of us located in the Seattle area? I am. Anyone up for a crag session next mon/tues? .. one day or both?
  4. Hey anyone know if the road up to Ingalls is open? Mucho Grassy-Ass.
  5. Dynamite, I hear ya!! I can't find any ladies to climb with either, and i'd like to. The boys are great.... but, i think i need a sympethetic soul to share some of the secrets of the trade. Signed, Nail-less, bruised and battered.
  6. I don't know Donna, I have to agree with Rockrat. I carry my own pack, too. Approaches are a bitch, Anayajay, but that's the price you pay. But i agree if you want to teach your girl to climb, start of slowly, make it enjoyable. Most people aren't masochists. I climb because i enjoy it for purely selfish reasons. NOT to meet men. Infact for a long time, i refused to date climbers for that exact reason. I didn't want to be misconstrued as the chick that her boyfriend dragged up the mountain/rock. I'll admit, when i'm out in the hills i always look at other females with a little scrutiny. I love to be surprised when i meet a real climber-chick that takes the sharp end. Unfortunately it's a rare thing, i've discovered. I've since given up (thankfully), and met a compatible climber that i enjoy heading out with at every opportunity. We climb when our schedules coincide, and i give him no grief for heading out to go climbing for the weekend or even 3 weeks. It's a the same bug i'm infected with... and i can understand his desire. When you share a passion with your significant other, i think it makes it much easier to co-exist. Pope, don't forget to zip it up.
  7. NolanR, Dru and all those other curious males, Maybe you could ask CC-Admins to make a rule that require all those whom state themselves as females lift their skirts before entering the forum. I mean, whatever would women want in a Climbing forum. We all know that girls can't climb... right? [This message has been edited by Lhotse (edited 05-27-2001).]
  8. Hey Mike, Thanks for the update. I appreciate it {{lol}} i'll let Nick know. And you'd better be working on it ("5.14c Deathgrip") you never know when those Rangers will come for ya....
  9. Hey, anyone know about snow conditions up in the Pass? Looking at Thompson, anyone been back there recently?
  10. Poor Tim! Who would have thought a question about Mt. Stuart could inspire such a circus. As a lady myself, believe me if you will, i'd like to hear more from other female climbers. ... sometimes i feel like i'm facing the entire male gender alone! [This message has been edited by Lhotse (edited 05-23-2001).]
  11. I personally like Red Rocks Resole. It's in Vegas, but i've enjoyed the timeliness and quality that i've received. And so far it's been consistant. DISCLAIMER: I've only sent in rock shoes. Not sent in any boots, yet. http://www.redrockresole.com/
  12. Fresh squized lemons... hmm, haven't tried that one. My secret recipe is exactly yours, except with a touch of OJ instead of the lemons. I'll try yours if you try mine.... Signed, Professional Alcoholic (and of course i waited 'till i was 21 to go into my line of work....) Then we all know about Gatoritas, right? Try the ultimate Gatorita, 1 part orange gat. to 3 parts citrus gat. ... add Tequila to taste (or need) and voila, almost as good as having triple sec, minus the weight. Not that i'd be hauling alcohol up a mountain.... certainly not me....
  13. Hey Latch, I feel your pain. For quite awhile i went back and forth about these same two tools with the same demons. Do i want an alpine ice tool?.. or a bad assed water ice tool that will go into the alpine? To make a long story longer, i went with the bent shaft Shrikes and i'm not sorry. The super light weight and versatility... you can't beat it. Put one more vote down for the Shrikes ... oh, yeah, and i forgot to mention they are MUCH cheaper tools, that was really the cincher for me. 14. .... is it in??
  15. Hey Rob, My mistake, the advice i gave on Madrone was meant for Carver. Like i said, i've not been out there but i hear it has some good climbing. Thanks for the clarification. ... hey, i don't live there (Portland) anymore how am i supposed to remember all these little details?
  16. Gaper, I'd check out Broughtons Bluff. Easy approach, top roping on a 5.6 and two 5.8's. Mixed pro for everything else basically. Nice climbs in the moderate 9 and 10 range. Solid rock. Make sure you look at the time it closes on the gate... they'll lock you in (it only takes once to learn that one)! For Broughtons there's a route book that's out of print, but you can take a gander at the one remaining copy left for the public at some climbing shop in SE Portland (near to PRG). I can't recall the name of the shop, but ask one of the guys at Portland Rock Gym, they can tell ya where it is. Hey, i'm gonna have to say to shy away from Rocky Butte, i wasn't impressed... really trashed. There is a hard bouldering area, but crash pads won't help ya much, it's really bad landings. So be a solid V9 climber to attempt most of 'em, if i recall the easiest of them was a V3 and it went up to a V9... i maybe off, it may have been harder. I haven't tried Madrone... but i hear it's killer. You can pay your homage fee at PRG and sign your life away, you need to provide your own blood. And Smith?... you must visit the Sport Mecca, it's great! Beware of the babys in the playpens, tho. And make sure you have plenty of gas if you are driving at night, not one damned station was open between Redmond and Salem!! Barely pulling in on fumes was scarier than the view out of Panic Point!
  17. Anne, Your estrogen is welcome here! And you're in Portland? That's fantastic! I've really been looking forward to meeting other female alpine climbers, particularly now that i've began reading "Leading Out".. the female bonding thing Got big plans for the winter?
  18. Jim, That's ok - you hold onto that photo. I have a similar one of you in your Moonstone bag :-P Thanks for your offer tho! Well, i didn't say that the Alien was terrible... i just mentioned that it's for sale... that's all! BTW - i tested the jacket this last weekend and was very impressed with it. It's now my favorite. [This message has been edited by Lhotse (edited 11-03-2000).]
  19. Courtenay, Thank you for your advice, i appreciate it. The elyptical is what i had been leaning towards anyway, good to have it verified. I agree - do what you enjoy best to get in shape.
  20. Hey Rob, It's OK - i'm starting to cope with being the only female over here I guess there are worse things to encounter! Yes, i am selling that Alien - i emailed at the address you have listed here. Hope to hear from you.
  21. Tim - you're a genius!.. simply genius - now i can bother everyone in Real Time! Yahoo! As far as the debates go, sometimes people take things personally... particularly in forums i noticed. Eh, at least it's entertaining for the rest of us
  22. Hey Jon, Thanks for the tips! I, like you, am embarassed to admit all the stupid things i've done to my ankles (poor babys!). At this point, several years after my last sprain, i still don't find the dexterity in them i used to have, and of course the weakness level that they are still at. I'll look into biking - {{lol}} yay! Another expensive sport... shall i mail you the bill??
  23. I'm looking into investing in either a stair master type machine or one of those newer elyptical type ones. I've been leaning towards the elypticals as it would, i think be more of an accurate similation for long hikes on steep terrain (such as an approach, or even a long slog). I'll plan on doing this with a weighted pack in an attempt to keep in shape during the weeks i can't get out during the winter. Which type would you suggest?? Thanks for your help! BTW - i don't have any problems with my knee's and i'm young enough i have several years left to abuse my body
  24. Hey Tim, I might just be a nerd too, but i think the Private Messages is a cool idea. That way if i decide that I don't like Daniel's post i can take it up with him personally....
  25. I just bought a Mountain Hardwear Gorewindstopper fleece jacket (also water resistant)... i've seen the miracles of wind jackets and i'm looking forward to trying it out myself. Anyone have this particular peice?.. what do you think? My favorite thing?... oh, how i LOVE my sleeping bag! Warm - comfy... oh, yes. My absolute favorite! Mountain Hardwear 3rd Degree synthetic. It's a little unruly at times, but i can't seem to stay mad at it. My least favorite? .. i'm not a big fan of my DMM Alien. Infact - it's for sale!!
