  3. Now Restored: I decided to restore the polyurethane coating on the floor and lower sidewalls as well as make other improvements. Recoating: The factory polyurethane coating that waterproof's the nylon on the floor and lower sidewalls of the main tent body was beginning to separate here and there and along with the unsealed floor perimeter seams allowing the entry of water. Despite its deterioration, the old coating was very stubborn in its removal and required many hours of work using a variety of methods. 1 layer of Kenyon Recoat 3 was applied to the interior floor and another on the exterior. Since the floor fabric is a textured nylon packcloth with coarse threads, an additional coating of silicon sealer was added to the exterior floor. The exterior lower sidewalls were also renewed and the floor's perimeter and vertical sidewall seams were sealed with Seam Grip. Improvements: The original draw cord on the tunnel entrance has been replaced with elastic nylon cord which moves more freely in its sleeve. The draw cord opening has also been reinforced. The stitching at points of tension, ie. stake loops, canopy guy line attachment points and pullouts was reinforced with Seam Grip. These points of attachment were all well sewn and solid but its an older tent and this strengthens the stitching. Perlon cord added to stake out loops for winter anchoring with ski's, etc. Slider hardwear enables the rainfly to be attached to the sidewall pullouts and allows for independent adjustment of tensioning. The tent may be viewed in Estes Park, Colorado. The original stuff sack, pole, main canopy and rain fly is included. I will include pegs but they are not specifically original. If you want to use your own, better pegs, let me know and the shipping weight will be slightly reduced. Asking price is $300.00. Super nice, classic restored tent ready for camping. 21. Alp Sport, Boulder Colorado - George Lamb and Alpine Designs - http://www.oregonphotos.com/Alp-Sport1.html Offering for sale a very solid Alp Sport classic pyramid tent with a rectangular floor plan. Interior center pole design that is roomy for 2 adults sleeping head and feet to the doors and gear. 3 persons if you remove the center pole and suspend from a tree branch. - Double wall design. Interior 1.9 ounce breathable ripstop nylon canopy and heavy duty nylon duck, pack cloth floor. Urethane coated nylon taffeta outer rain fly. The fly appears to be a replacement as it looks only slightly used. - Front zippered triangular and rear snow tunnel entrances backed with bug netting. Tunnel vent above the tunnel entrance. - 83" wide X 93" long. 16" high sidewalls. 71" center height. - Sheds snow very well. - Approximate weight is 7.5 pounds without pegs Condition - This is a used vintage tent that is in overall good condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. There are some usage stains here and there but all have been additionally spot treated and in my view what remains is set and not coming off. There are no tears or seam stitching needing to be repaired. The entire tent has been treated with Mcnett Mirazyme Odor Eliminator to remove the "old tent odor". The polyurethane floor and sidewall coating is mostly there but is beginning to separate and there are small peeled spots in places. It is not sticky. My present thinking is to leave it be and use a waterproof ground sheet within for very wet conditions. The condition of the rain fly is excellent. Bringing this tent "up to snuff" is work in progress and will be completed before being shipped. The original owner chose not to seam seal. I will seal the rainfly seams with McNett Seam Grip. Original stuff sack is included, tent pegs are not. The tent can be viewed in Estes Park, Colorado. Asking price is $275.00, shipped.
  22. Your perspective is short sighted and unneeded. Most educated consumers of outdoor products understand there are many brand new expedition parka's by various manufacturers on the market that sell for say $300.00 to $900.00. All designed for the deep cold. The age of this parka has not in any significant manner diminished its ability to function as designed. However, its functionality aside, it is presented for sale to that segment of the market that has an appreciation for an item that is vintage and has certain perhaps intangible qualities that go beyond today's mass produced, made in Asia for maximum profit symbols of status, identity and dreamed about aspirations. Walk the streets and campus, go to the crags, observe the stickers on the vehicles. The land is filled with homogenized want-a-be's as well as the real deals, many of whom have the appearance of a mass of REI display dummies that have just exited the store and dispersed through the country side. The mantra is consume, consume, consume. Talk about the duping of the masses. How desirable it is to be chic, stylish, vogue and cool. And, to be complimented on a jacket that you know hardly anything about accept where to plunk your card down on the counter and have it. Whew! So what are the intangibles? Gear that has a story and a history. A connection with an innovative gear pioneer, his company and the American workers in someones hometown whom played a major role ushering in the Golden Age of climbing, backpacking and the exploration of some of the last unknown geography on our planet. And, instead of supporting more production with your purchase, keeping things going. Repairing and making things last to their end. For me it doesn't matter a wit whether someone buys the parka, only that I'm putting it out there for further use by someone who values this sort of thinking. Vintage gear appreciates because there are those that do. What is anything worth? In the end, value is in the eye of the beholder. Another sort of economics intangible! Cheers -N
