Mounting the shoulder straps in between these cross members could be done by using the long clevis pins to which the load lifter straps are attached.

Use suspenders if your waist is smaller. Length is 30". No pockets, no waist elastic, no cuff adjustment. In excellent, hardly used condition with no imperfections. Cons - zippers have an inner draft flap which is easy to snag when zipping. If I were wearing them, I would stitch seam binding or very light webbing on the flap to stiffen and eliminate how carefully you need to zip. I could have this done for you, ask for a price.
