  2. To the best of my current knowledge, this rendering of the Eddie Bauer goose down filled expedition parka was manufactured in the early 1970's approximately 16 years before the company was purchased by Spiegel and the tagline "Expedition Outfitter" came to an end. Although not off the shelf mint, it is in rare, overall exceptionally nice used condition. Application is similar to The North Face Himalayan and the Marmot 8000 Meter parka's, i.e., designed for the deep cold. The color is burnt orange in a men's medium. Made in Seattle, the parka is not a relic for display in a store front window or gear museum. It is fully functional and as ready for cold weather use as the day it was sewn together and filled with goose down. Features: - Goose down insulation. - 1.9 ounce rip stop nylon outer shell and inner lining. - Double off-set quilt construction. Stitch lines that you see on the outside are backed by the separate down filled chambers of the inner layer. - Heavy duty #10 YKK double toggle plastic tooth zipper with an external snap closure draft tube. - The hood is attached on the back side and has 2 additional attachment snaps around to the front. No sewn through seams.. - Parka length covers the buttocks. - Waist and hem draw cords. - Inside zippered chest pocket. 2 large insulated Velcro closure cargo pockets backed with hand pockets. - Super lofty, packed with goose down. - Rib knit inner cuffs. - Weight is 3 pounds, 2ounces. Condition: Cons- 2 pin head size holes that were previously covered with tape. I removed the tape and its residue and repaired with Tenacious Tape. Few faint stains and smudges here and there. Some faint spots that look like a tent mate tried to choke off laughing while drinking cocoa. Pro's- Overall the parka is clean with no grime on the collar, chin or cuffs. There are no tears or significant spots of wear, even on the cuffs. The few scuffs are superficial and the fabric is not fraying. All stitching is intact and the zipper operates smoothly. The parka's history is unknown to me however by appearance alone, it has been lightly used and well cared for. The color is not significantly faded. Was asking $400.00, now $350.00, shipped. Question For Northwest Mountaineering Oldsters - Does anyone know the specific model and manufacturing years of this parka? Thank you for your kind consideration!

  5. Tangerine Dream Versa Tech - Synthetic fill expedition mummy bag in size regular, right hand zipper. Rated to -30 degree's Fahrenheit. Features: - Polarguard polyester insulation, overlapping shingle construction. - Nylon taffeta shell, brushed polyester lining. - Mummy design with shaped, contoured hood and an insulated collar that further seals the opening at the shoulders. - Nearly full length double toggle YKK coil zipper backed by double, insulated draft tubes. - Box foot construction. The bag is in very good lightly used condition with approximately no more than 10 nights of winter camping use. The interior brushed polyester lining warms up quickly. It has been washed and the color is bright and un-faded. All stitching is intact, the zipper operates smoothly and the Polarguard insulation has not shifted or bunched up. The overlapping shingle construction is known for its stability and longevity. There are 2 tiny abrasions in the outer shell that I covered with Tenacious Tape. 8. Snow Lion of Berkely CA, early 1970's - 1977. Two, Vintage, Men's Snow Lion Mountain Parkas - A size small and a medium. Rare. Snow Lion manufactured outdoor clothing and gear during the outdoor sports renaissance and backpacking boom of the 1970's and was especially known for the high quality down filled sleeping bags and jackets. Mountain parka's of the time were usually made from tightly woven 60/40 cloth (60% cotton, 40% nylon) or polyester/cotton poplin fabrics that offered good wind protection but were moisture effective only in repelling fog, drizzle, short duration showers and dry snow. Snow Lion has used a tightly woven 65% polyester, 35% cotton material in these parkas. Classic mountain parka features that were standard in the designs of yesteryear: - Single, zippered chest and 2 lower Velcro closure cargo pockets. Hand slots behind the lower cargo pockets. Zippered access to a full, upper back panel pocket which I suppose could be used for carrying an emergency blanket.........among other things. - The small size has a green outer and royal blue upper lining. Entirely a double layer fabric of polyester/cotton and nylon, these are shell garments and are not insulated. - Medium has a wine colored outer and royal blue upper lining and is the same parka model as the small. - Dark brown, abrasion resistant nylon on the shoulders, neck, hood, upper chest and back. May be a Urethane coated nylon for additional protection from downpours but this is uncertain. - Heavy duty #10 YKK tooth design entry zipper with an outer, snap closure draft flap. The zippers works well. - Wide Velcro closure cuffs and a waist draw cord, none at the hem. - Hood cinches down around the face with a double toggle draw cord at the neck. - These are burly parkas, the medium weighing 2&1/4 pounds. They appear to have been only slightly used and are in exceptional condition. The colors are bright and there are no worn or damaged areas, stains or grime on the fabric. Certainly old school in the evolution of garment technology but still a highly functional piece for many applications. Also, makes a nice travel jacket without being too technical. Or, paired with a sweater for a classic appearance when going out. Hiking oldsters and others, please advise if any of my description is lacking. Asking $65.00 for each, inclusive of shipping.

  22. Made in England, House of Hardy 100% cotton moleskin knickers - 34 inch waist. Belt loops, Velcro closure cuffs, zippered fly. Very good used condition with no specific imperfections. Look excellent with sandal's or wear at the crags in cooler weather. Asking $40.00, shipped. What is Moleskin? Description from David Morgan: Moleskin and corduroy are rugged cotton fabrics long used in outdoor wear, as trousers, jackets, vests and shirts. In Britain, with the development of the cotton industry in Lancashire, these fabrics were used particularly in trousers for farmers and laborers, as the trousers were durable, washable, and gave good protection from chilling winds. Moleskin and corduroy were used also by the landowners who found it unusually comfortable when shooting or fishing. While laborers in Britain tend nowadays to wear inexpensive jeans, the landowning class have stayed with the moleskins and corduroys not only for trousers but also for jackets, vests and shirts, providing the market for a few mills to maintain production of high quality cotton moleskin and corduroy fabrics. Moleskin and corduroy are fustian fabrics, woven with a twilled weave to form a thick dense cloth, and having a cut nap on one side. With the moleskin, the fabric is brushed to form the nap. With the corduroy, the weave is such as to provide separate cords, held in the woven fabric, which are then cut to form the pile of the wales or ridges. The nap or pile is then sheared to form a uniform surface. The best quality fabrics are very tightly woven from fine threads of long staple cotton. The stress on the loom in producing the better cloths is too great for the normal modern loom, which restricts manufacture of these cloths to those few mills with either older high strength looms or specially reinforced looms. Moleskin, with a brushed nap, is soft. Moleskin is a rugged long lasting material providing great comfort and good protection from wind chill.
