  1. With all the extra-marital humping going down, the shooter probably had to elbow his way to the front of the line. No wonder why the fucker had back problems.
  2. Take a 12 story building, sever half its vertical columns on the ground floor with a 350,000 lb blade moving at 440 mph, explode 20,000 gallons of jetfuel inside the lobby, and see if it is still standing afterwards. Now, take that same 12 story building and drop it from a height of six stories onto an identical building below it and see if THAT building doesn't pancake. I just described the impact on the North Tower. The South Tower was hit lower down and therefore far worse. A very detailed explanation of the collapse, including how the WTC was designed, built, and fireproofed, is in wiki. It took me all of 10 seconds to find it. All lies, of course. I can't imagine being so unfamiliar with how things work that such a collapse would seem incredible to anyone capable of using a toaster - it's like shooting a baby in the face with a 12 gauge and expecting the kid to tell you about how it felt afterwards. What amazes me is that the pilots were able to score two direct hits. I tried to take down various buildings in San Francisco in a 767 flight simulator at Boeing and couldn't hit a damn thing for the life of me, although I did manage to fly the fucker under the Golden Gate Bridge.
  3. Putting everything underground would make them impervious to...to...flooding...and... ...damn. This is why we don't let massage therapists design our grid.
  4. Threads like this make me kind of sad. They remind me of those reality shows about hoarders. Bone's one of the few conspiracy junkies who has managed the eek out a relatively normal family life. It usually doesn't go down so easy for that tribe. I witnessed a friend's home life implode primarily due to a similar affliction regarding Peak Oil. Very cool chick, too, but "she just wouldn't wake up" and suffered from "suburban sensibilities". She was devastated by the break up. People who indulge such psychological disorders without taking any steps to mitigate their effects can do enormous damage to those around them in the name of their brain's pattern recognition gone terribly wrong. I'm not sure baiting someone who clearly has such a disorder is any better, but Bone always fires the same first shot, to the same disdainful audience, expecting a different result, over and over and over...

  6. The storm's gonna spray only N VA, VT, with a tail end brushing OH. Hard to predict the net effect (more voter participation = better for Dems, given their greater numbers, but crisis can make folks leary about 'changing horses mid storm surge). Seems like both are canceling speaches. Probably a wash. The Big O's swing poll numbers are back what they were before the 1st Debate. I wonder if all those billionaires will write such generous superpac checks next time after their boy gets sent back to his Cayman villa?
  7. Vote the rape baby mama ticket!
  8. Increasingly looks like Obama's gonna take WI for a 281/257 win. Some wonkerz believe that candidates who trend well at the end take it. That would be Obama right now.
  9. Med marijuana patients will have arrest immunity under I502. They do not currently. If arrested for possession or growing, a med marijuana patient can't simply show the green card to the cop and get off. They must be arrested, booked, and appear before they can prove their innocence by showing their green card to a judge. It's highly fucked up. I 502 will fix that. I502 also reclassifies hemp as an uncontrolled substance, allowing it to be farmed as a cash crop.
  10. That's not a bet. You gotta at least predict the swing states and electoral count. Put yer back into it, man.
  11. Gay Weed n Charters pass. Inslee by an laser sliced RCH, but that's just wishful thinking.
  12. Obama takes NH, IA, OH, and NV for the win-by-a-hair at 271 Romney takes FL, WI, VA, and CO for a close-but-no-cigar at 267 Leaners and Sure Bets go as predicted I know this because it is God's Will. 2nd most likely: Obama: NH, IA, OH, and VA for 278, Romney: FL, WI, NV, CO for 260
  13. I need to check the attic...
  14. OK, that helps. Start off shorter and go bigger as needed would be my recommendation, FWIW. Climb up AND down stuff, too. Down climbing's just as important, and can be weirder for some folks. It pretty common to ascend a rock route and descend a snow couloir as a quickie way to get off the mountain.
  15. WTF is that thing?
  16. I'd start shorter and more mellow, but I don't know where you're starting from, exactly. Argonaut, Deception, Colchuck, Colonial, Chair Peak, even McClelland Butte right up the road - there are tons of shorter objectives to set out on. Then I'd probably do Shuksan and Buckner from your list to start. N face of Shuksan doesn't involve a glacier approach, so that makes it a bit simpler.
  17. The best accessory for a pack is a sewing machine. I just expect to buy packs, repair them, destroy them, and buy another one. There aren't many things you can do to a pack that even a minimal field repair kit can't handle, save retrieving its yard saled contents from the bottom of a schrund or something. I like the BD Speeds for weight, comfort, simplicity, and value. Plus, the one time I contacted them for repair advice they did a very involved repair gratis and unsolicited. Dealing with their service folks was more like dealing with a local shop than a big company.
  18. You're right about late summer snow. That stuff will typically hold a bus, anyway, so a surface test would probably not tell you anything you wouldn't know already. If you're not comfortable free soloing steep snow, by all means, pitch it out or do running belays. Either requires a lot more gear and time, however, which also figures into the safety equation, particularly if a sun warmed snowpack will increase rock or ice fall from above or potential snow bridge failure. Prevention of falls that aren't going to happen anyway can cost you in other ways. Climbing unencumbered is more fluid, more fun, and keeps your warmer, in addition to being faster.
  19. Half a mil (taxpayer funded) payout for failure? Hey, that's nothing in free market!
  20. No, that would probably not happen. Belaying a much heavier climber on rock rarely produces much of a belayer take off, and the fall factors there are much greater than on snow. Pickets are good for pitches involving ice/rock/crevasse/otherwise sketchy sections when needed. Otherwise, climb either unroped or roped only for crevasse falls with a similarly competent partner. Snow is a layered structure. Surface testing snow doesn't tell you much. You're really never going to know a picket's strength past passing a pull test in the field, although you probably can generalize a bit.
  21. I sail kayaked to Grenada from Trinidad. There's a strong, 5 knot current on the south side that's a bitch to cross - takes hours. Turns out the US dropped a SEAL team into it - they never found them. The 'threatened medical student's' Ronny supposedly went in 'to rescue' were hard to find - our forces looked for hours. Hogtied in some basement? They were partying on the beach. Gotta love the Toy Wars of the 80s! An idyllic time when kicking the ass of some of the world's tiniest nations was enough to re-awaken American pride. When pint sized wars were short, sweet, cheap, and won. Reagan knew the value of bluster wisely kept it at HO scale. Both sides recognized that the Great Game was just that and nothing more. Ketchup was a vegetable, people were only born once, and it was all good, clean fun.
  22. I hear tell that The Stranger's been bought out by a right wing rag. Serious loss. Best political reporting in Seattle. Where else can you read a recommendation to kick a city councilman in the twat?
  23. "$5 million to charity if Obama releases his...his...zzzzzzzzzzz."
  24. Thank God for divorce!
  25. Remember that junior cop who marked tires in your high school parking lot? He's a hiker now.
