If you stick your arm into a hornets nest, it's a bit too late to ask about what the solution to your situation might be. There is none, other than running as fast as you can and hoping you get stung as little as possible.

Are you kidding? You yourself said nobody should be expected to inspect national ID cards in the middle of an armed confrontation, but certainly our troops have killed "many thousands" of presumed combatants. Even by our government's own account, we have been fighting a bunch of hostile terrorists who have entered the country of Iraq solely for the purpose of de-railing our efforts to bring freedom to the poor people who live there. Certainly, our killing of "suspected terrorists" in the field have added up to thousands, and I'm not really sure what the totals have been in Guantanimo or in military prisons in Iraq and elsewhere. Thousands is for sure. Maybe more. There are presently 430 detainees at Guantanamo, all of whom have been tortured (from eyewitness accounts of detainees who've been released). Only 10 have been charged with a crime. Congress has defied a 2004 Supreme Court ruling by legislatively denying these prisoners access to an attorney and other constitutional norms of due process.

And I can't believe you can't properly interpret such a simple, clear statement. Turning tar sand into oil requires 5 to 10 times the fossil full expenditure (and thus C02 release) for extraction and refining as standard crude oil production. In other words, standard refining requires .1 to .2 barrels of oil in for every barrel of oil out. With tar sands, the ratio is close to, or greater than 1 (economically feasible because natural gas, which is used in the process, is much cheaper than crude). Do the math. Energy content of the final product, which is, of course, the same either with either method, has nothing whatsoever to do with it. Look before you leap into the tide.

Seymour Hersh believes that the U.S. will use tactical nukes against Iran. At first I thought he was nuts. Now I believe him. I wonder how deep a shithole we'll dig for ourselves before a) Bush is out of office or b) someone puts a much needed bullet in the fucker?

Every drop of drivel I drip onto this forum comes from my own random neural fibrillations. I avoid a lot of death threats that way.

If teachers only worked their contracted hours, and spent none of their personal funds on their classrooms without reimbursement, the education system would crumble even further than it has already. If teachers were effectively teaching students how to think, then we wouldn't be using phrases such as "President Bush". or drug testing...

Not getting caught using cocaine: Not illegal.

I don't teach other people's children. But I do believe that teachers should be subject to drug testing (just like much of the private sector already is) since their job carries such a special responsibility. And if Ivan thinks his avatar protects his identity from his students, then his very naivete should also disqualify him from the job. Ivan's habit has already gotten him into trouble at least once. I'm surprised he hasn't put down the pipe by now and become a responsible teacher/adult. That's a bit of the kettle calling the pot, ain't it? Your profanity on this site pretty much falls into the same category of 'poor example for children', plus you've posted at least once about having a hangover, thus displaying your drug abuse for all to see. Adult behavior? What does smoking grass or drinking beer have to do with being an adult? The illegality hasn't much to do with it, either. Ever drive home with one too many under your belt? Get off your high horse and accept that you're more demon than angel...just like the rest of us.

If it were a small number of events, I'd be with you. In this case, it hasn't been. I don't consider many thousands of wrongful deaths and detainments small by any scale. It is true the military was under orders from the very top, but those orders were to detain, torture, and kill first, ask questions later.

That is funny....same thing on my side. Ask a really good friend why they voted for Bush and the response is "I believe in morals and family values". That kind of response always has messed with me. Do the republicans have more family values than the Democrates? WTF. You can explain the rationale of a good percentage of Bush voters with this statement: "I voted for Bush because I believe in insert RNC's meaningless platitude-of-the-week here. Can I resume shopping now?"

AC/DC...is that the one that requires only a single prong socket?

Don't think I buy that excuse. If I knew the war was bullshit in Oct 2002, and all my friends knew the war was bullshit, why can't a fucking senator figure it out? The "facts" were coming from the White House...that should have been a dead giveaway.

Hey DC, when you're done posting the every psychoanalytical cartoon in Western history, would you mind checking all the outlets in my neighborhood for proper voltage?

And the Lord appeared before Ted in the form of a prostitute, and said "Cum onto me, and open yourself to receive my massage, though it may be long and hard, and you may not shit right for a month." Wonder how Ted's family counseling is going?

A quick comparison of our posts would quickly identify to an attending psychologist who is more likely in need of restraints and a restraining order.

Not really, considering the vague histories and uncharged crimes of our guests at Guantanamo. Matt was simply referring to our practice of detaining or outright killing the wrong people, which is pretty much standard procedure for us at this point. When you've got the gun or the key to the cell, the definition of an "intent to kill" can be stretched pretty damn far.
