He was high pitched and whiny, wasn't he?

I think Band of Brothers should be in there somewhere. A great story arch from WTF Their Shootin At Us! to post war disillusionment. Give Patton another viewing - each opening scene is a cinematic work of art. It is dated in that the grittiness is and first person POV isn't really there, but still. Shaving's good...but I think 90% of that is the invasion scene, which is out and out brilliant.

Worked with a guy at my first job who married this chick that browbeat him into a reversal (he already had 3 kids). One of his nuts swelled up to the size of a grapefruit. Turns out she was cheating on him the whole time. Rockin' it Everett style. Double rainbow, all the way!

It's relatively simple, Off. The passing of a jet engine through the atmosphere leaves a low pressure vortex in its wake. In addition, exhaust gases from the engine rapidly cool, reducing their ability to hold water vapor. The combination of this pressure drop and rapid cooling, under the right conditions, causes water vapor to condense. The government then injects mind control chemicals into the slipstream and lots of people vote Republican.

With a dog like that, wouldn't the nutcut be redundant?

Read Wiki wrong...off day! Only Chile had the Brooklyn. I'm probably the only one who gives a shit anyway....
-
Chile? My memory is already shite! NOOOOO!!!! The confusion: She was sold to Argentina (Gen Belgrano), then Brazil, then Chile (O'Higgins) - she foundered on her way to the Indian shipwreckers after being sold for scrap. It would have been awesome to snag some hardware from my dad's 5" gunmount before the Pacific got a hold of her.

Bruce did want out of the Navy - it's in both his biography and autobiography, both of which are good reads. It was against regs to drop a cigarette butt on deck. My father told a story of how Bruce would tether his cigarette with light fishing line, drop his butt, and when an officer approach, deftly flick it back between his lips.

Oh, wait...I get it! PP's pullin' a Nitrox! Bruce was bi, BTW. My brother's gay - so our fam is kind of over the whole conservative homophobic bigotry thing. You'll get there someday.

It's true, I've got no complaints about either me or my life these days. None at all.

You know I just dumped an unhappiness junky myself about 2 months ago and I feel like I'm walking on air.

My father was on a gun crew, with Lenny Bruce, no less, on the cruiser USS Brooklyn, in the Med during WWII. He mostly shelled French people, until the ship struck a mine, backed up, and struck another. It was later sold to the Argentines, who ran it aground and sank it accidentally. He wound up spending 30 years in the Navy before taking advantage of the GI bill to go to college (he never finished high school), then law school. Since that noble war ended the military has been a monkey on our fiscal and geo-political back - a national, imperial addiction. Its precisely this kind of unquestioned reverence and sycophantic denigration of those who just don't buy it that keeps the addiction, and the blank check that goes with it, strong. We possess 40% of the worlds weapons. Our military is larger than then next 10 nations combined. When do you herd animals plan to declare that enough is enough? And here's a wee little hint for the most sycophantic poster here: peer pressure from a moron is no pressure. Take it - you'll be just a little bit smarter for it, and you can use all the help you can get in that department.
-
Wow. I'm everywhere at once, even when I'm not. You sycophants have got the military fawning thing right well covered. No need to join the herd.

Watching Fasc News on the treadmill again last night. Hannity gave Bush a hummer, Palin 'took on' the first lady, Obama invited terrorists to attack our country by correctly acknowledging the multifaceted definition of jihad...the yewzhe. 3 tidbits of non-news followed by lotsa Hannity playing with his straw man doll collection. The Mystery Missile came up, of course...they dredged up some kooky retired air force general (J.T.Ripper?) who was absolutely sure it was a large, submarine launched missile and definitely NOT an aircraft. All 4 (!) pundits on hand for the discussion DEMANDED an explanation from the gubmint...WHAT ARE YOU HIDING OBAMA???!!!!! If Bush were in the Oval it would have been "STFU Libruls, they're protecting our freedom!" Yet another entertaining episode LOL. The Jersey Shore of news.

Of course, i like the current tax regimen cuz I never buy anything.

Minx, did your pack, "drop you," while climbing? I'm sorry. :kisss: i believe my pack "dropped" me for a better climber. *sigh* tvash-- i thought about getting a new pack but a mail order pack just seemed so cheap. how would i know if it were the right pack for me? you can't fail if you don't try. i'm going to come back where i belong Some online packs don't have the features advertised, and most are too large, but it only takes one to fit right. Shopping online can can be a great way to avoid investing a lot in a pack only to find that it can't go the distance. I think the most important feature in a pack is how well it works for general, every day life, rather than any one narrow activity. Activity-specific packs tend to get lost or stolen. Most of the time you're just sitting there with your pack next to you anyway, just hanging out. If you need to know what to look for and what to avoid when shopping for a pack, my friends and I have developed a robust set of very helpful guidelines that can help avoid an inferior product.

So THAT's what happened to that fuel canister....

There is a definitive bible on the subject: Mushrooms Demystified, by David Aurora. It has lots of color plates, but most species don't have images out of shear necessity (there are thousands of species in there). He's authored at least one other, smaller field guide, too. Good places to start: Morels, king boletes (spring), chanterelles, and hedgehogs (fall) - all easily identified, no close lookalikes. Oyster mushrooms and angel wings are also good bets to start off with. My method of ID is to find the genus in Aurora, do an image search on it for similar pics if the species isn't obvious, then circle back and verify species in Aurora. I don't eat anything with dangerous lookalikes. Having said that, only about 2% of all mushroom species are poisonous. But man, that 2%, particularly those with the amanita toxin...OUCH. Am. toxin basically relieves you of a functioning liver...hijinks ensue.

It's a good thing you can order a wide variety of replacement packs online. Emphasis on 'wide', 'variety'?...not so much.
