  1. Hey guys, myself and a few partners will be up in Squam this weekend. Were going to spend a couple days on the back side but would love to meet up with ya all. Especially if ya'll need a partner to climb with. Good luck, happy sends, and see ya up there eh! ~cheers~ Austin p.s. TrangTu I'd love to hear more about the Dolomites. We have to meet up in Squam. Perhaps a Brew pub rendezvous?
  2. Tickets to Italy right now are dirt cheap and real hard to pass up. Anyhow putting the feelers out for partners AND beta on the routes up there. ~cheers~ Austin S

  4. and others in the surrounding area... Hey folks, so this years climbing season is upon us and may I say with full force! if the mosquitoes are this bad already (in Squamish) I really hate to imagine what they'll be like in a month! Anyhow just thought I'd see who's all up here in the great 'ol B-ham. It'd be kind of nice to get to meet more outdoors folk up here. Anyhow I'd love to get up darn near anything, so if you ever need a partner in a pinch feel free to contact me. Trad, sport, alpine, glaciers; anythings fair game. 253-677-1297. Till then climb on! ~cheers~ Austin S.
  5. Your a god send. Every where else just kinda stinks, and Westerns gym seems to be over packed with ego pumped hormone enraged plastic pullers that don't understand that climbing is supposed to be FUN! Best of wishes to you and if the bank turns you down perhaps we could rally outside their office until they lend you the cash. ~cheers and best wishes~
  6. My partner and I will be up Feb14th- Feb22nd in search for that illusive presidents day weather window! Send me a PM if yall are going to be up there. Maybe get a poker game going after a hard day of trudging about? Even combining forces to make a larger team would be worth considering. Anyhow hope to see some of you up there! Good luck and happy trails. ~cheers~ Austin S
  7. Like the caption says, I'm looking for an all around climbing partner for this summer. I work mostly weekends and am thus left with a full week of nothing to do but work on the sail boat and climb. Such a hard life Trad, mountaineering, and kayaking are what I most prefer, but am always up for learning something new. My location is the great city of Bellingham with Baker 45 min's away, Squamish just a couple of quick hours up the road, and the sea 5 min's down old fairhaven parkway. Send me a PM if you have a similar predicament. till then ~cheers~ Austin Stringham
  8. Traveling in complete white outs ARE difficult, but NOT impossible like most will lead you to believe. Word to the wise. Know the muir route like the back of your hand before you get out of your warm car. this simple knowledge is what can save the most lives... Move from landmark to landmark. Of course GPS and Compass are the first resources to turn too. Did my muir trip last winter in mid December, pure white out STRONG winds (oxy moron eh?), but was fine, and w/o a doubt if you study up you'll be fine just as well. cheers and good luck. perhaps we'll see ya on your way up. couple friends and I are going at it in winter as well. ~till then~

  14. its unfortunate people such as Castro, Stalin, and Hitler have given Communism such a bad name. in reality the goverments these sorts of men ran were forms of dictatorships! communism doesnt varry much from the democratic point of view. in the sense that the community is eventually ran by the people vrs the rich few. its a great ideal and deserves to be recognized as such. Unfortunetly you have assholes that claim to be commies when in fact the're military dictatores... just my 2cents. ~cheers and good climbing~

  18. Sorry bout that I should have been a little more clear... I can't see how you would incorporate a swivel into a system. especialy for top ropping. any body have any diagrams showing the use of a swwivel???
  19. How do these come in handy in rescue situations? I just can't think of an application one would is it for??? Any ideas?
  20. Wow an article on mostly gym climbing. Not once did they mention the true appeal of climbing. the "flow" concept of which the state of mind becomes so concentrated and everything just seems to go well in a blissful peaceful moment.
  21. there's a hostel right across the street from Pike place. they do single rooms for a little bit more money. Not to sure about the pet rule tho. on the plus your smack dab in the heart of tourist seattle and theres a lovely park right around the corner.
  22. Get seperate rops. Trying to multi purpose doesnt work! Heres the skinny: When you TR the rope is constantly weighted which heavily shortens the life span. now say you've TR'd on the rope your getting quite a bit, and then take a fall one day while crossing a crevasse. Being so heavily weakened by the constant TRing you could snap a line. Specialy if you go with a thinner line then a 10mm. Your best bet would be get a cheap static line to TR with (since you wont be lead climbing.) and get two small 30meters for glaiceral travel. Any scenerio you go with what ever you do be sure to stay away from multi purpose ropes! its dangerous!!!!
