To the person who took my BD green quickdraws, please be aware that I (240 lbs) took a 50 footer onto the top one. Use wisely. If I hadn't been hurt in the fall I wouldn't have left them. If you want the other 3 I took with me, I'll give you a good price. This would have been a month or so ago. -Carp

I can't help but agree with this, at least a little. However, the polished nature of the holds and the funky cracks just make it more "interesting". The climbing is harder than when I was a kid (due to 20 years of polishing), but I'm climbing harder too. I suspect many (most?) climbers are in a similar situation. The only people really losing out are rookies and today's generation of sneaker wearing kids. No doubt the millions of people who've used the UW rock far exceeded the original expectations (and maybe even intentions). Also, the centerpiece "highball of death" is lightly used at best. The UW rock is cool, but a lot of lessons were learned from it that went into Marymoore Park. Schurman Rock, the true OG training rock, is still totally visionary and other than size is better than basically every climbing structure that has been built in the last 80 years. I would like to see the original preserved as much as possible, but maybe this is a good time to talk about an expansion of the facility. However, in defense of the UW rock: it has a far better singles scene than any other local climbing rock. -Carp

Now there's a Seattleite! I've always enjoyed the "I live in BF eastern Washington, why do I pay extra taxes for roads in Seattle?" complaint. It's because the people in Seattle are paying for your farm aid and schools.

You have to get your Prana capris somewhere. The store is full of recreational equipment, which includes functional clothing. Very little of it is the "lifestyle" clothes, the worst of which is made by Royal Robbins and Yvon Choinard. Blame them.

Maybe it should go without saying, but there are rattlers on the trail to Bruce's Boulder in Leavenworth. It's easy to overlook for new climbers, especially that near the car. Don't forget to pack your mongoose

Native names certainly are "fun". Lushootseed place names are largely bastardized anyway when we see them now. Nookachamps (Skagit County) was originally more like D'kwat?sabis. Puyallup (pew-al-up) was originally pwee-ahl-loop. Get yourself a Chinook Jargon dictionary and start looking up place names. You'll never visit "Melakwa" anything, because you'll know better. "Pilchuk River" is redundant. I was once told "All the locals say 'McKinley', not 'Denali'". Perhaps the locals need to redefine "local"? Edit: I forgot one. Reiter Rd - it should be pronounced "Writer" or maybe "Rider", but everyone says "Reeter". I figured "Who knows how to pronounce Quien Sabe?" was a clever joke

I owned almost every Muppet movie on VHS. Then, I bought them *all* on DVD - "To protect them for posterity!" (There are also model cars in our china cupboard:))
