[TR] Cashmere Mountain - Standard Rt. - Variation 4/15/2007
fettster replied to zoroastr's topic in Alpine Lakes
Nice, wish I could've gone along reading and seeing all that! -
Nice work. So are there any goats there?

[TR] traverse: - Steven's Pass to Snoqualmie Pass (Gold Creek) 4/2/2007
fettster replied to pinegar's topic in Alpine Lakes
Looks like a blast! Nice job. How tough was the snow cave digging? -
Here's the latest I've seen: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/current-conditions/mta-climbing-report.shtml It does mention some downed trees so hopefully the snow would be deep enough to get over them.

Nice work, love the Argonaut shot! Texas? -
Here's 111's TR from last May: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=7&Number=569539&Searchpage=3&Main=42355&Words=south+sister&topic=0&Search=true#Post569539

I was just going to check if this thread had been updated, cool! Bummer on the conditions, though I guess the tree is no longer an issue then. Did you have to do a lot of plowing in the 4x4 to get to where you parked? There were some pretty solid downpours yesterday around the metro area. I doubt it was much fun being out in it!

This is the one near Santiam Pass right? The clearcutting doesn't look too bad from the pictures. Nice work! -
[TR] Mount Washington - Route 4 (sort of) 1/20/2007
fettster replied to suge's topic in Olympic Peninsula
Fun report and some great views along the way. I'm sure the crampons were happy to finally get some use! I really need to get to the Olympics. Wish I had those in my backyard! -
Off highway 22 it's 7.5 miles to the trailhead. Of course tree or no tree, this time of year there's still going to be snow on the road: http://www.nohrsc.nws.gov/interactive/html/map.html?mode=pan&zoom=¢er_x=++-121.8671¢er_y=++44.6508&ql=station&var=ssm_depth&dy=2007&dm=3&dd=10&dh=18&snap=1&o5=1&o9=1&o12=1&o13=1&lbl=m&o7=1&min_x=-122.08374999999&min_y=44.488334019974&max_x=-121.65041666666&max_y=44.813334019974&coord_x=-121.86708333332501&coord_y=44.650834019974&zbox_n=&zbox_s=&zbox_e=&zbox_w=&metric=0&bgvar=dem&width=600&height=450&nw=600&nh=450&type=0&js=1&uc=0 I was doing some topo/aerial exploring with http://mapper.acme.com/ and there's some great color, high res aerial shots of the Mt Jefferson area which are pulled from Google's server (select the Hybrid or Satellite views). Most regions you usually have to use the "DOQ" view there to get high-res shots, but those are always in black and white, so it's fun to see some color ones.

Letsroll, is this about where you think the large tree is? http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=44.69718&lon=-121.9279&datum=nad27&u=4&layer=DRG100&size=l&s=100 From my map software that's about 5 miles from the trailhead. Dougd, you planning to do some skiing or snowshoeing when you head up?
-
The reason I had asked is I was getting conflicting data from different sites. The NOHRSC site was closest to what I actually found last weekend. (select the "Snow Depth" option): http://www.nohrsc.nws.gov/interactive/html/map.html

Anyone know what the snow elevation is near Mt Hood now?

Climbing Film - The White Hell of Pitz Palu
fettster replied to Mike_Gauthier's topic in Climber's Board
Talk about going lightweight! Guess they planned for a quick summit huh. I would agree the footage in Pitz Palu is impressive. I kept trying to picture in my head how they went about getting some of those shots. I thought it was interesting Leni Riefenstahl said the apex of her creativity was the day WWII broke out in 1939 when climbing in the Dolomites. I had no idea she'd directed Triumph of the Will while I was watching, wow! -
[TR] Mt. Hood - Sandy Glacier Headwall 1/28/2007
fettster replied to sparverius's topic in Oregon Cascades
Looks and sounds pretty epic, nice work! Is Tline lodge really the only practical place to get to Yokum Ridge in the winter? -
joeschmoe (or anyone else) is any of the Pamelia Lake trailhead road plowed in the winter?
-
Woohoo, looks sweet. Must have been a good time especially with the wind holding off. About what elevation is that where it looks like you are just above the clouds?
-
Looks like a lot of fun! How was the scramble up to Old Snowy? Are the rocks very big? Were there many water sources between Snowgrass Flats and Old Snowy? How busy was the alpine camp by Snowgrass Flats?

Input for approaches for Old Snowy - Ives Peak
fettster replied to fettster's topic in Southern WA Cascades
That's great to hear. Maybe the crowds will be held off until August sometime. Four parties is not bad at all...finding a camping spot definitely wasn't an issue then I bet. Do I need to bother with snowshoes anymore (ie, any postholing)? -
I've not heard anything besides what you've posted.

Input for approaches for Old Snowy - Ives Peak
fettster replied to fettster's topic in Southern WA Cascades
Thanks for the replies. Guess I will need to decide if I want the slightly shorter and busier route or the longer and quieter one. I've taken the Snowgrass route before, so McCall would be something new for me. I assume the snow is patchy at 5200. At what level did you notice it was continuous? Did you get up to any of the peaks? -
[TR] Mount Adams- Adams Glacier 7/10/2006
fettster replied to off_the_hook's topic in Southern WA Cascades
Nice report, I wish I could get all the photos to load, especially the silhouette one! Nice that the weather cooperated and the upper clouds burned off. Got stormed off the mountain last year on the second day so hope to get back this year. See any goats on the day? -
Does anyone have any preferences on approaching Old Snowy and Ives Peak from the Berry Patch/Snowgrass Flats trailhead versus McCall Basin? Did you find one was more scenic or less steep/difficult than the other? Thanks for any input!

Did you get up there this last week, and if so, how was it? I've always had a great time when I've been there.
