  1. Every time I climb the crack at VW I get a raw spot on my right hand. It bleeds a little. NO DIGNITY.
  2. My stick is always handy. I used the new setup both days last weekend, at Crystan and Stevens, and I have to say it was AWESOME. The boots don't feel much wimpier than my alpines, the skis were really nice and easy to turn, and the whole ski/boot/binding combo was so light it felt like driving a sports car compared to the SUV of my alpine setup. And even at a resort the walk mode is a nice bonus for clunking around the cafeteria and the parking lot. The Dynafits take a little more effort than alpine step-ins, but it'll certainly be worth it for the reduced weight in the backcountry.
  3. Many/most/my cars only have 2 circuits - you'd be stopping with 2 brakes. Eh, car'll still stop with 2 brakes.
  4. Eh, car'll still stop with 3 brakes.
  5. Rejoice, oh brothers and sisters, for I have already bought my stuff! I think you're looking for the "Religous Wars" thread.
  6. I'm amazed it took 2.5 pages before this opinion was voiced.
  7. Well, last weekend I went ahead and bought a pair of Garmont Mega-Lites because... y'know, I liked the color. Got the bindings mounted too. I'm sure this was all good advice and if I'd seen it in time I would have listened to it. But for now I've got what I've got, it seems good to me so we'll see how it goes. Pro Ski on Aurora is a great shop, I recommend them highly to anyone, they took good care of me.
  8. There's already a fifth fundamental force.
  9. At least I think I know what I want. In the summer time I decided I was going to get a pair of K2 Shuksans and mount Dynafit bindings on them. I got a used pair of bindings, and managed to pick up a new pair of skis real cheap. They're 181s, which I think might be a little longer than ideal (but the price was great!). So now that I am about to put my setup together... my question is, do you think I'm going to regret mounting the binding on these skis? I am 6'2" tall, weigh 155 lbs. I'm a pretty solid alpine skier on my cheap old Salomon 196ers, but I've been thinking lately they might be a little too long too. Do I want to come up with a shorter pair of Shuksans? Any advice is appreciated.
  10. I like the blissfully ignorant people in the background.
  11. I walked into REI looking to try on the Matrix, thinking I'd be a 29.5 (my alpine boot size), and it turned out the 28 fit best. So you might be surprised at what fits you. I have also been told that a good bootfitter can do amazing things to make boots work for you.
  12. I went skiing yesterday. It rained all day and was generally crappy, but I had a great time because I stayed pretty dry and warm. Except for my hands, which stayed extremely wet. This didn't surprise me, because my gloves cost $20. My buddies who had spent much more money on their gloves WERE surprised that their hands got equally wet. Is there such a thing as a waterproof glove? I've never worn one, but I've never dropped any serious cash on a pair. Maybe now I'm willing to. Advice appreciated.
  13. I am a pretty good skier and a very bad snowboarder. I thing boarding is easier to learn. But you will spend the first few days falling on your ass. I think skiing gives you a more varied body/ground impact experience.
  14. Nice pic! I'm planning to go yard saling at Steven's.
  15. What does not in the mountains mean? I think I remember stepping on an ice cube in my kitchen back in June.
