Man is that so interesting. I heard (hearsay) that about 2 weeks before 9/11 both buildings had a mandatory fire drill. At that time (with the buildings empty) it is conceivable that the explosives used to level both buildings were put in place. I also read that it would be almost impossible for a plane to actually bring a building of that size to the ground. I know I know …..It’s all a conspiracy theory. But with how this current administration has torn apart the constitution…..I would not put is past Bush and his cronies.

The Best? Maybe in your mind. I did not learn to climb in a gym……I don’t know those signals…. What I do know is that what ever I say…..my belayer needs to know what I mean…..would you agree? I was climbing St. Vitas Dance (spelling???) in Squamish a couple of years ago the party in front of us were conucks….they were not using signals that I recognized. The leader would say “secure” when saying off belay. Are you telling me that that guy is full of crap because he did not use what you are used too? That’s what I thought. All areas of climbing are different friend…….

Anyone see the Democratic fiasco yesterday? What a joke. The Dems had a good chance to at least debate possible impeachment of Cheney. Nancy Pelosi is weak. So to sum up the last 7 years: Bush/Cheney……. We have a war that was sold to us on false information. We have the congress and the White House endorsing torture (if you say anything but “ITS WRONG” that would be endorsing it). You have illegal wiretapping. You have Habeas Corpus (your right to due process) thrown out the window. You have a President who has complete disregard for the Constitution and a war monger. He is the president who tried to make us safe but instead has turned the world against us and let Osama Bin Laden get away. We attacked a country that never attacked us, simply for oil. Let’s not forget we have two armies now…..the army we all know and the private army called Blackwater. Blackwater has complete amunity from there actions. WTF……. Did we not vote in the Dems in to make a change? Why are they stalling? Does anyone else have concern for this? Bush stated in 2003 "major combat operations in Iraq have ended”. Yes with being belayed.......I climbed with Ivan for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We went sport climbing and before I left the ground I let him know my habits. That just gave him a “heads up” to what he will hear from me and what I expect him to do about it. Its not like you get out the chalk board and draw a picture……it’s just a simple courtesy for the team to know what the habits are of other climbers. And of course…..it could save your life.

Oh yeah….the reason I say (really anything at all) “rope” is to give my belayer a split second to feed rope…..they cant always see my hands (especially if it is a super long pitch)……I HATE BEING SHORT ROPED. When you get into climbing 12’s and up…..feeling anything but the weight of the rope can throw you off the climb. Hence the commands…….

Its not about improvement IMO……it simply is what it is. Just make sure your belayer knows what your commands are…..that way it does not matter if you have ever climbed with the person before or not. I believe clarity before you leave the ground is key.

Did you not read what I wrote? It really does not matter what you say when you need rope…..as long as you and your partner are together on what your method means before you leave the ground.

Say what ever you want…..just make sure your belayer knows what you mean. I suggest covering this before you leave the ground. When I am ready to grab the rope and run it through the carabineer, I have a habit of saying “rope” then I say “clipped” once it is in. When climbing with someone new I try to go over this on the ground.
