  1. REI is selling TNF Nuptse for 150$ I went to Next Adventure Sunday but I didn't see that many winter jackets. Plenty of gloves though.
  2. Thanks thats was just the info I needed. Now I know what area to look at and I can start to read the maps. From your description it sounds like it is the perfect trip for me. Wanted to get out in the olympia mtn for a long time now. Thanks
  3. Nice photos. I feal kinda stupid now but I can't find any info about where Mt Carrie is located. I will be at the olympic peninsula at new year and it looks like a nice hike. Anyone got any trail info about this hike?
  4. Before I moved to Portland I lived in Sweden near a small town called Laxa. One day late in the fall when I was out riding my bike I meet the man you descrice just outside town. Looked like Moses, his sandals was made out off old car tires and rope. I stoped and talked to him for maybee 5min and gave him some off my cookies. he mostly lived from food given to him from friendly people and when I meet him he was on his way south towards Jerusalem. I am guessing this was around 92-94 or so. He looked to be in great health although a tad delusional. Next day it was a small story about him in the local news papper. He left a pretty deep impression on me, don't find many people that do what they belive in anymore.
  5. Have anyone tried this jacket? http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores...ductId=32339201 or http://www.rei.com/product/47812898.htm?vcat=REI_SSHP_MENS_CLOTHING_TOC Was thinking as an early spring or late fall jacket to save some wear and tear on my real winter jacket.
  6. Made it back after an awesome day in the snow. Didn't make it all the way up to Muir because I was getting paranoid about runing out of day light. The gate opened at 9:20, the temp at the parking lot was about 24 and I thought there was lots of snow but some skiers I talked to said it wasn't enough. I mostly used snow shoes but switched to crampons once in awhile. Looked to me like folks on skies did better then snow shoers. Snow was pretty soft on lower elevations and that made it easy to follow the tracks from people ahead of me. It was foggy in the begining but it cleared up after a couple of switch backs, had my GPS tracking just in case it would get bad decending, also took some bearings. The blue colored glacier ice in the late morning sun light was spectacular. So what I want to do now is to go up and spend the night at the camp Muir stone shelter but that will have to wait until after the holliday..stupid relatives.
  7. How much is the entrance fee at the Nisqually gate? How much cash do I need to fork out to hike up to Muir?
  8. Camp Muir- going 11/19/2004 questions Hey Going up to Muir for the first time this weekend and I have a couple silly question. Is there snow at Paradise trail head? Can I get away with a 2wd car with no chains or should I take the 4wd gas guzzler? I was hoping to start pretty late, 7ish or so. Will that cause me any problems with the snow / falling rocks? Should I bring snow shoes or is crampons enough? Any special dangers I should be aware of or is the standard route fairly safe this time?
  9. Climb: Mt Adams-South Spur Date of Climb: 11/12/2004 Trip Report: Did this trip Friday Arrived at the south trail head around 7:30 and the temperature was then around 30. The snow on the road was less then it have been the last couple of weeks but according to the ranger they now have 10" of snow at the trailhead. Stayed on the summer route pretty much the whole time. The snow was soft and sludgy and I was switching between snowshoes and crampons and nothing really worked well. Turned around half way up crescent glacier. Nice hike but if you are aiming for higher elevation you need to get going early, the hike back would have been ugly without snow shoes. Did a little bit of glissading but there are still plenty of rock obstacles.
